Bryant Nelson Breaks Atlantic League All-Time Hits Record

History made at Regency Furniture Stadium

(Waldorf, Md., Aug. 3, 2016) - During the first inning of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs game against the Lancaster Barnstormers at Regency Furniture Stadium on August 3, Bryant Nelson broke the all-time Atlantic League hits record by recording his 1,053rd hit. The record was previously held by Somerset Patriots’ Jeff Nettles (2004-07, 2009-12). During the 2016 Campaign, Nelson has 93 hits in 86 games played, earning him a spot on the All-Star roster.

Nelson was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 1993 MLB Armature Draft and made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox on May 14, 2002. He made his Atlantic League debut with the Bridgeport Bluefish in 2006, and he has since played with the Long Island Ducks (2007-2008; 2012-2013), the Camden Riversharks (2009; 2014), the Lancaster Barnstormers (2010; 2015), and the York Revolution (2011; 2014) before joining the Blue Crabs Roster during the 2015 season.

"I believe I speak for the entire Blue Crabs’ organization, the Atlantic league, former teammates, and former coaches when I express how proud I am of Bryant," said Blue Crabs Manager Jeremy Owens. "His hard work, determination, and leadership is something that all players should aspire to reach."
