Southpaw Eric Niesen re-signs with the Bluefish for 2016 season
(Bridgeport, Conn. – Feb. 2, 2016) – The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Eric Niesen.
“Last year, Eric was an extremely reliable member of our pitching staff,” says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. “His confidence on the mound is reassuring and we are very happy to have him back this season to anchor the back end of our bullpen.”
Eric Niesen returns to Bridgeport for his fifth season in the Atlantic League and tenth of professional baseball. He began the 2015 campaign with the Long Island Ducks, where he made eight appearances on the mound. After the Bluefish acquired him in a trade, the left-hander made 28 relief appearances and collected an impressive 0.93 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 29.0 innings pitched.
The 30-year-old made his professional debut in 2007 after he was selected in the third round of the MLB draft by the New York Mets. He spent five years within the Mets organization before joining the independent ranks with Long Island in 2012. During the 2013 season, Eric’s contract was purchased by the Boston Red Sox, where he reached as high as the Triple-A level. In 348 career minor league games, Niesen owns a 33-51 record with a 4.17 ERA and 607 strikeouts in 666.2 innings of work.
The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
