Atlantic League All-Star Led Bees with seven wins, 2.70 ERA

(New Britain, Conn., July 6, 2016) – New Britain Bees team officials today announced that starting pitcher Cole Johnson has had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He will report to Reno (AAA).

“Johnson has been our most consistent starter this season and gave us a chance to win every night he took the mound,” said Bees Manager Stan Cliburn. “We wish him the absolute best with the Diamondbacks organization.”

Johnson, a resident of Newington, Connecticut, was second in the Atlantic League in ERA at 2.70, tallying seven wins and six losses in 15 starts for the Bees while striking out 48. At the time of his contract purchase, Johnson was tied with Jonathan Albaladejo for the Atlantic League lead in wins with seven. Prior to this season, Johnson had spent his entire professional career with the Twins organization, including parts of two seasons with the New Britain Rock Cats.

Johnson is the fourth Bees player to have his contract purchased during the 2016 inaugural Bees season, joining Nick Greenwood (Minnesota), Josh Zeid (New York Mets) and current Bee Eric Fornataro (Baltimore), and the first to be assigned directly to the AAA level.
