Chris Mazza's Contract Purchased by the Seattle Mariners

(Waldorf, Md., Aug. 15, 2018)
– The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced Wednesday that right-handed pitcher Chris Mazza had his contract purchased by the Seattle Mariners organization. Mazza will report to the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Mariners.

The California native was a newcomer to Southern Maryland, joining the team just over a month ago on July 13th. He made his debut on the mound for the Blue Crabs on July 15th, tossing two scoreless innings of relief against the New Britain Bees. Mazza made nine appearances, including one start on the year, while compiling a 3-0 record with a 0.41 ERA. His one start this season came in his last outing on August 11th, going six innings while allowing one unearned run en route to picking up the win.

Mazza was originally a 27th round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Menlo College. In his first professional season, the right-hander went 5-2 with a 2.05 ERA for the Twins organization. He spent 3+ seasons with the Twins, beginning the 2015 season with them before finishing it with the Miami Marlins organization. Mazza then spent three seasons with Miami, including reaching AAA at the beginning of the 2018 campaign.

“We are happy for Chris to /have this opportunity to join the Mariners organization,” said Manager James Frisbie. “He pitched well for us in his limited time here, and we know he will continue to have more success in the next step of his journey.”
