Two More Head to New Britain

Bees re-sign former big league infielder Jason Rogers; add outfielder Jared James
 

(New Britain, Conn., April 2, 2019) - The New Britain Bees today announced the signings of infielder Jason Rogers and outfielder Jared James.

“It’s great to add a couple of quality players to our team,” says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. “Jason was a very important piece in our lineup last season and will bat right in the heart of the order again, while Jared adds speed and versatility to our outfield.”

Jason Rogers returns to New Britain for his second season in the Atlantic League and 10th of professional baseball. Last year, the former Major Leaguer appeared in 107 games with the Bees, and posted a .297 batting average with 26 doubles, five home runs, 65 RBI, 53 runs scored, and a .397 on-base percentage.

The 31-year-old began his professional career when he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 32nd round of the 2010 MLB amateur draft. After five successful campaigns in the Brewers organization, he made his big league debut in 2014. Rogers spent two seasons in the Majors with Milwaukee from 2014-15, and with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016. In 117 career big league games, the slugger owns a .258 average with four home runs, 18 RBI, and 24 runs scored.

Over the course of 867 minor league games, Jason has comprised a .286 batting average with 180 doubles, 94 home runs, 493 RBI, 448 runs scored, and a .369 on-base percentage.

Jared James joins the Bees for his first season in the Atlantic League and fourth of professional baseball. Last year he spent time with Single-A Florida of the Atlanta Braves organization, appearing in 78 games and posting a .258 batting average with 24 extra base hits, 30 RBI, and 39 runs scored.

The 25-year-old was originally drafted by the Braves in the 34th round of the 2016 MLB amateur draft. He spent his entire professional career with Atlanta, reaching as high at the Double-A level in 2017. That season with Mississippi of the Southern League, James collected a .279 batting average with 30 extra-base hits, 34 runs scored, 39 RBI, and a .352 on-base percentage.

In 251 career minor league games, Jared owns a .277 batting average with 69 extra base hits, 97 RBI, 107 runs scored, and a .350 on-base percentage.
