Barnstormers Sign Former Brewer

Sean Halton Joins Lancaster for 2016

(Lancaster, Pa., March 8, 2016) - The Lancaster Barnstormers continue to build toward their season opener on April 21 with the signings of outfielder Sean Halton and right-handed pitcher Cameron McVey, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.

With these signings, 11 players are now under contract with the Barnstormers for the upcoming 12th season in the history of the franchise.

Halton, 28, appeared in 42 games for Milwaukee in 2013, his fifth professional season. The right-handed hitter batted .238 with four homers and 17 RBI for the Brewers in that season. His home runs included a walk off shot against Cincinnati’s Zach Duke on September 15 and a grand slam against the Cubs’ Chris Rusin three days later.

The San Francisco native worked his way steadily through the Brewers’ system, driving in 88 runs in Class A in 2010 and batting .298 with 65 RBI for Class AA Huntsville the following season. He remained in the Milwaukee organization through 2014, batting .293 with 63 RBI for the Class AAA Nashville Sounds in 2014.

He spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles, splitting time between Class AA Bowie and Class AAA Norfolk.

“Sean is a proven RBI guy,” said Hobson. “He is going to be a big bat for us in the middle of our lineup.”

McVey, 27, spent three seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization and appeared in 92 games, all in relief. His best year came in 2013 when he went 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA in 22 appearances for Salem-Keizer of the short season Northwest League. That year, he struck out 48 while walking only 14 in 42.1 innings of work.

The California native moved to the American Association’s Sioux Falls Canaries last year. He was 2-2 with a 2.81 ERA in 36 games, again striking out more batters (44) than innings pitched (41.2).

“Cameron had a good year in the American Association last year,” said Hobson. “Everyone spoke very highly of his ability to pitch in the back end of the bullpen, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to pitch at a higher level.”

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their twelfth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
