Former MVP to Report to Buffalo
Outfielder Blake Gailen, the 2012 Atlantic League Player of the Year, has been signed by the Toronto Blue Jays and will report to Class AAA Buffalo today.
The 28-year old California native was batting .288 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI at the time of his signing. He also led the Atlantic League with 35 doubles and 65 walks, ranked fifth with a .385 on base percentage and fourth with 72 runs scored and 197 total bases.
In 2012, Gailen was not only the league MVP, but also Baseball America’s Independent League Player of the Year. He won the Atlantic League batting crown with a franchise record .338, swatted 22 homers, stole 25 bases, scored 94 runs and drove in 89.
This is only the second regular season opportunity that Gailen has had with a Major League organization. He signed with the Angels late in 2011 after batting .406 for Lincoln and appeared in 29 games with Class AA Arkansas.
Gailen is the fourth Barnstormers player picked up by a Major League organization this season. Tim Dillard (Brewers) and Joe Mather (Reds) were acquired in the spring while Jason Urquidez (Angels) left in early August.
The Lancaster Barnstormers are in their ninth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
