Feliz Pirated Away

Barnstormers Third Baseman Joins Pittsburgh System

(Lancaster, Penn., Jan. 29, 2016) - Third baseman Anderson Feliz has signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, it was announced today, becoming the fifth player that finished the 2015 campaign with the Lancaster Barnstormers to join a Major League organization this winter.

Feliz, 23, signed with the Barnstormers in early June and batted only .221 with three homers and 18 RBI in his first 47 games. The former New York Yankees farmhand developed rapidly and became an instrumental part of Lancaster’s second half title push, batting .325 with four homers and 26 RBI over his final 45 contests. Overall, the Dominican Republic native finished with a .275 average, seven homers and 44 RBI. He amassed 12 doubles and a team leading five triples.

In the post-season, Feliz was responsible for Lancaster’s lone win in the Freedom Division series, driving in five runs in the 6-5 Game Two victory. He finished the playoffs with five hits in 15 at bats, including a homer. Feliz drove in six runs total.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Feliz spent six seasons in the New York organization, reaching Class A Tampa in three different seasons. This winter his team won the championship in a Nicaraguan league.

“Of all the players we’ve had signed over the years, this one might be the most exciting,” said Lancaster manager Butch Hobson. “He was just a young kid who really hadn’t had that much of a chance to play. We gave him that opportunity.”

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their twelfth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
