Somerset Patriots Sign Major League Pitcher Jeremy Horst

(Bridgewater, N.J., March 15, 2016) – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of Major League left-handed pitcher Jeremy Horst.

“I’m excited and looking to expand my career as a pitcher,” said Horst. “Somerset is giving me a great opportunity to test myself and prolong my career as best as I can. I have heard it is a great place to play!”

Horst enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and in the Atlantic League. The southpaw has three seasons of service at the Major League level, including one year with the Cincinnati Reds (2011) and two with the Philadelphia Phillies (2012, 2013). Across those three seasons, Horst accumulated a 2-2 record with a 3.34 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 72.2 innings pitched.

The Cheyenne, Wyoming native’s best season in the big leagues came with the Phillies in 2012. That year, he went 2-0 and compiled a 1.15 ERA in 32 relief appearances with 40 strikeouts over 31.1 innings of work.

“Jeremy is a very accomplished left-handed pitcher,” manager Brett Jodie said. “He is going to be a solid starter for our team. Horst has a great idea of how to pitch and what he wants to do with the hitters. He will also be a positive influence in our clubhouse as we have heard great things about him as a teammate. Jeremy will give us a chance to win every time he takes the ball!”

Last year, Horst split time between Double-A Tulsa in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and Triple-A Colorado Springs in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He combined to record a 2.39 ERA and 10 saves over 51 relief appearances between the two levels. The year before, Horst went 4-2 over 45 games (three starts) with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization.

The 2007 Reds draft pick spent the first five years of his career in Cincinnati’s organization before making his Major League debut in 2011. He has spent time as both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher throughout his career.

Horst owns a 30-35 record with a 3.05 ERA over his nine seasons of service in the minors, including 18 saves and 557 strikeouts over 286 appearances (44 starts).

The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
