Ducks Sign Former Big Leaguer Colvin

Six-year Major League veteran joins Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 14, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of infielder Tyler Colvin. The former first round draft pick will begin his first season with the Ducks.

“Tyler adds a potent bat along with a great deal of experience to our team,” says Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “He has had success at every level, and we look forward to having him on Long Island.”

Colvin spent six seasons at the Major League level, including three with the Chicago Cubs (2009-11), two with the Colorado Rockies (2012-13) and one with the San Francisco Giants (2014). In 441 games, he totaled 49 home runs, 178 RBI, 164 runs, 63 doubles and 21 triples. The South Carolina resident’s best season came in 2012 when he set Major League career-highs in batting average (.290), RBI (72), runs (62), hits (122), doubles (27), triples (10) and games played (136). He launched a career-best 20 home runs during the 2010 campaign with the Cubs.

The 30-year-old is entering his 11th season of professional baseball after being drafted in the first round (13th overall) by the Cubs in the 2006 amateur draft. He spent all of 2015 with the Charlotte Knights (AAA, White Sox) and finished with four homers, 25 RBI, 27 runs, 15 doubles and three triples in 88 games. The former Clemson University slugger received the MLBPAA Cubs Heart and Hustle Award in 2010. He also earned Baseball America Short-Season All-Star honors with Boise (A-, Cubs) in 2006 and Mid-Season Florida State League All-Star honors in 2007 with Daytona (A+, Cubs).
