Less than a week into the second half of the Atlantic League season, the competition for the second half standings is underway.
Gastonia has shown no signs of letting up in its dominance of the South Division. The Honey Hunters are 5-0 with all five wins coming against High Point, the club that finished second to Gastonia in the first half. High Point never let Gastonia get more than two games ahead until the closing weeks of the first half.
It would be impossible to say that Southern Maryland has stumbled out of first place as the Blue Crabs trail co-leaders Lancaster and Staten Island by a mere game. Staten Island, on the strength of a franchise-record four-game winning streak, has started the second half 5-1. The Barnstormers have won five straight including a weekend sweep of the Wild Health Genomes, to share first at 5-1.
This week’s mid-week series include High Point at Lancaster, Gastonia at Kentucky, Charleston hosting York, and Lexington at Long Island. Southern Maryland will have the opportunity to transform the top of the North standings as the Blue Crabs entertain the FerryHawks.
