Bluefish sign outfielders Wilkin Ramírez and Luis Domoromo, and catcher Rossmel Perez
(Bridgeport, Conn. – March 22, 2016) – The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of outfielders Wilkin Ramírez and Luis Domoromo, as well as catcher Rossmel Perez.
“We’re very happy to have these guys join our lineup this season,” says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. “All three are coming from good teams last season where they put up some respectable numbers, so we can’t wait to see what they can do for us.”
Wilkin Ramírez comes to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and 13th of professional baseball. Last year, the former Major Leaguer played with Rochester of the International League (Triple-A, Minnesota), where he played in 43 games and collected a .232 batting average with three home runs, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. Ramírez made his professional debut in 2003 after being signed by the Detroit Tigers as an undrafted free agent. He played seven seasons with the Tigers organization, making his Major League debut in 2009. In 2010, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves, playing for their Big League club in 2011. The following year, he was acquired by the Minnesota Twins organization where he has spent the last four campaigns, again making it to the Majors in 2013. In 70 combined Major League games with the three clubs, he owns a .271 batting average with one home run, 11 RBI and 16 runs scored. In 1,086 career minor league games, Wilkin has a .260 batting average with 138 home runs, 535 RBI, 561 runs scored, and 183 stolen bases.
Luis Domoromo makes his way to the Park City for his first season in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball. Last year, Domoromo played with San Antonio of the Texas League (Double-A, San Diego) where he collected a .262 batting average with four home runs, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 115 games. The 24-year-old made his professional debut in 2009 after being signed by the San Diego Padres as an undrafted free agent. He has spent his entire career with the Padres organization, reaching as high as the Double-A level in 2015. In 636 career minor league games, Luis has a .252 batting average with 37 home runs, 270 RBI, 303 runs scored, and 41 stolen bases.
Rossmel Perez joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 11th of professional baseball. Last year, the catcher played 17 games with Norfolk of the International League (Triple-A, Baltimore). The 26-year-old made his professional debut in 2006 after being signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an undrafted free agent. He spent eight seasons with the Diamondbacks organization, and has also spent time with the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles organizations. He had a career-best campaign in 2014 when he split time between Triple-A Louisville and Double-A Pensacola, both Reds affiliates. That year, he batted .321 with four home runs, 51 RBI and 35 runs scored. In 731 career minor league games, Rossmel owns a .270 batting average with 15 home runs, 270 RBI and 243 runs scored.
