(Sugar Land, Texas, April 25, 2017) - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the team has re-signed right-handed pitcher Chris Treibt and added outfielder Derek Miller to its 2017 roster.
Treibt, 30, returns for his third stint with the Skeeters. As a member of the Skeeters in 2015 and 2016, Treibt went 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA and totaled nine strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. In 2015, Treibt was a player/manager in the Pecos League for the Roswell Invaders where he guided the club to a championship.
In addition to his time in Sugar Land last season, the five-year baseball veteran from Northeastern State University and Rogers State University was as a member of the Joplin Blasters (American Association) and Somerset Patriots (Atlantic League). In his five seasons of professional baseball, he is 6-5 with a 3.09 ERA in 76 games. In 2013 he played for the Edinburg Road Runners with Skeeters bullpen catcher Jeff Allen managed by Ozzie Canesco, who still holds the Atlantic League single season homerun record at 49.
Miller, 24, is entering his fourth season in professional baseball and first with the Skeeters. The son of current Skeeters President Jay Miller, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft from the University of Texas at Arlington. Derek spent his entire career in the Red Sox’s minor league system. He has appeared in 201 career games in his four-year minor league career and has a .253 average in 201 games played. In 2015 with Greenville (A) he was named to the Mid-Season All-Star team in the Salem League. The Texas native attended Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas where he earned all-conference honors his junior and senior years. Former Skeeters and major league players Ryan Langerhans and Travis Schlichting attended Round Rock High School and big leaguer John Danks also was a Dragon.
