(York, Pa., June 21, 2016) - The contract of York Revolution catcher Isaias Tejeda has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves. Tejeda becomes the first member of the 2016 Revolution to sign with a Major League organization. The signing was announced on Tuesday by Revolution manager Mark Mason.

In his first Atlantic League season, Tejeda burst onto the scene, earning the Revs’ starting catching job early in the year and helping lead the club to a 32-25 start and a two-game lead for first place in the Freedom Division with 13 games to go in the first half.

The 24-year-old ranks second in the Atlantic League with a .351 batting average at the time of his departure. He clubbed his sixth home run of the season in Monday night’s game, helping the Revs to a victory over Long Island. He also owns 23 RBI in 41 games played and ranks tied for fourth in the league with 15 doubles, fifth in extra-base hits (22), second in slugging percentage (.556), and tied for fourth in on-base percentage (.398).

Tejeda batted a whopping .537 on a 10-game hitting streak, May 4-16, and was in the midst of a 17-game hitting streak at the time of his signing, the Revs’ longest since the 2014 season and one shy of matching the Atlantic League’s longest this season. Tejeda was batting .368 on the current streak and .371 since May 4.

In addition to 25 starts behind the plate, where he helped the Revs pitching staff post a 3.44 ERA, the versatile Tejeda also made nine starts in left field, four starts in right field, and one start at third base.

The Dominican Republic native began his career with the New York Yankees organization in 2010, and spent his first six seasons in the Yankees farm system before signing with York prior to the 2016 season. Tejeda was a New York-Penn League All-Star with Staten Island in 2014, a season in which he posted a career-best 20-game hitting streak. He was also a Gulf Coast League All-Star selection in 2011.

Tejeda becomes the 35th player in Revolution history to be signed by a Major League organization in-season, and the first to sign with Atlanta since left-handed pitcher Ian Thomas in 2012. Thomas, a member of the Revolution’s 10th Anniversary Team, would go on to make his Major League debut with Atlanta in 2014, while also pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the big league level.
