Dominican battery the latest addition to York in 2016
(York, Pa., March 18, 2016) - The York Revolution have signed Major League veteran pitcher Jose Arredondo and catcher Isaias Tejeda to contracts for the 2016 season. Revs manager Mark Mason announced the signings during Friday’s airing of “Revs Hot Stove Weekly” on SportsRadio 1350 WOYK.
A new addition to the Revs pitching staff, Arredondo, 32, last played in the Dominican Winter League in 2014, making five appearances for Leones del Escogido. Arredondo spent the 2008-09 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and played the 2011-12 campaigns with the Cincinnati Reds. In four major league seasons, he sports a 22-11 record and 3.27 ERA over 214 relief appearances.
Originally signed by the now-Los Angeles Angels organization in 2002, Arredondo now enters his 11th professional season. After breaking into the bigs in 2008, he became a major contributor for a 100-62 Angels squad that won the American League West Division. He made 52 relief outings, going 10-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 61 innings, and his 10 wins were the most of any Angel reliever.
Arredondo signed with Cincinnati in 2010, undergoing Tommy John surgery that same season. He returned to the Majors the next season and regained his peak form in 2012, going 6-2 with a 2.95 ERA with 62 punch outs in 61 innings over 66 trips to the hill. Arredondo earned his first Major League save at Yankee Stadium on May 19, 2012, tossing two-thirds of a shutout inning in the Reds’ 6-5 win over New York.
Another fresh face in Mason’s clubhouse, Tejeda, 24, spent six seasons in the Yankees organization, making it to Advanced-A Tampa in the Florida State League at the end of 2015. In six professional seasons, the Dominican national is hitting .261 with 76 doubles, 24 home runs, and 156 RBIs.
Tejeda’s finest season came for the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League in 2014, his fourth season with the club. His .276 batting average and .826 OPS were fourth and third on the team, respectively. Tejeda notched a career-high 21 doubles and came one short of another career mark with five home runs.
The Revs now have 16 players under contract for the upcoming season. The club will continue to unveil player signings each Friday on “Revs Hot Stove Weekly” on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and the WOYK mobile apps. Fans should tune in next Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. for more player announcements.
