Lancaster Stormers 4, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 0

Noah Skirrow keeps improving as the 2025 season rolls along.

The Team Canada member and former Phillies farmhand was at his best Wednesday evening as he fanned 10 in six shutout innings, pitching Lancaster to a 4-0 win over the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars in the middle game of a three-game series at Penn Medicine Park.

Skirrow (10-3) yielded five singles, walked two and hit a batter in his six-inning stretch.  He became the first Lancaster hurler to fan 10 in a game this season and tied Hagerstown’s Mike Kickham for the league lead with 87.

Hagerstown had opportunities to score off him.  In the second inning, Justin Acal knocked a two-out single into center, but Nick Lucky threw out Joe DeLuca at the plate.  Skirrow picked up strikeout number seven against Dariel Gomez for the final out with the bases loaded in the fifth.

He fanned the side on 13 pitches in the sixth.

Scott Engler kept the shutout intact through the seventh inning, allowing a two-out triple to Roidel Martinez before Lucky made a sliding catch on an Ossie Abreu liner to left center.  Cody Stashak survived a leadoff double by Cody Arbolida in the eighth, and Gerson Moreno completed the shutout when Martinez was thrown out at second on a base hit to the right field wall.

Lancaster struggled to score for the second straight night.  The Stormers finally broke the ice in the bottom of the fifth.  Nick Ward led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a grounder to the right side by Yeison Coca.  With Mason Martin batting, Ward stole third.  He scored on a wild pitch from Julian Minaya (0-7).

Minaya yielded four hits and three walks in five innings.

The Stormers were able to extend the lead in the eighth, taking advantage of wildness from the Hagerstown bullpen.  Nick Lucky led off with a walk from Zane Robbins.  Andrew Semo doubled over the head of Abreu, putting runners at second and third.  Robbins walked Alex Isola to load the bases.  Michael Saturria entered and walked Evan Alexander and Scott Kelly on full count pitches to force home runs.  Ward followed with an RBI single to right before Saturria got the side in order with no more runs scoring.

Michael McAvene (3-1) will make the start for the Stormers on Thursday night against left-hander Anthony Imhoff (0-3).  Lancaster will need a win for its seventh straight series victory.  Fans may follow the action on Blue Ridge 11 or FloBaseball, starting at 6:40.

NOTES:  The two teams have combined to strand 41 baserunners in the series while only 10 total runs have scored…Ward had his 25th multiple-hit game of the season…Lancaster is 12-4 when Skirrow starts…He has thrown six or more innings in seven of his last eight starts…Alexander is perfect against Minaya (3-for-3 with a double, triple and walk) over the last week.

Lexington Legends 15, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 7

GASTONIA, N.C. – The Ghost Peppers’ four-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday, as Lexington scored eight runs in the third inning and defeated Gastonia, 15-7.

Nick Wells allowed the eight runs in the third, allowing six consecutive singles by Lexington in the frame. Thomas King then allowed four runs in the fourth, as the Legends took a 12-0 lead.

Gastonia cut into the dozen-run deficit in the bottom of the fourth when Ethan Skender hit an RBI double, plating Dalton Guthrie. Nate Scantlin’s two-run single made it 12-3 after four.

After the Legends scored three more runs off King, Skender hit the first of back-to-back homers by the Peppers in the sixth inning.

Skender’s ninth home run of the season was followed by Eric De La Rosa’s 13th, making the Gastonia deficit 15-5.

Although Wells and King both struggled in their outings on Wednesday, Bryan Blanton shined in his. The right-hander went three scoreless, striking out four batters as the final arm used by the Ghost Peppers.

De La Rosa’s two-run single in the ninth made it a 15-7 game, which was the final score.

The Peppers failed to win their fifth game in a row, falling to 6-8 in the second half of the season. The rubber match between Gastonia and Lexington is on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

York Revolution 10, Staten Island FerryHawks 1

(July 23, 2025 – Staten Island, NY):  Alex Sanabia returned to the York Revolution for the first time since the 2022 season and spun four masterful innings as the Revs walloped the Staten Island FerryHawks, 10-1 on Wednesday morning / afternoon at SIUH Northwell Health Community Park.

Kevin Miranda (2-0) followed Sanabia’s four innings of one-hit ball with three scoreless frames of his own to earn the win, while Ryan Higgins led a big day for the offense with a career-high four hits and four RBI.

Signed earlier in the day after beginning the season in Mexico, the 19-year veteran Sanabia set the tone early, striking out his first two batters in a 1-2-3 first inning. The former Miami Marlins righty and two-time Revs Opening Day starter kept the FerryHawks off balance, and allowed his only hit on a one-out single by Mark Contreras in the fourth. Sanabia struck out four, cruising through an efficient four innings on just 48 pitches.

Staten Island starter Alex Mack matched Sanabia with zeroes through the first three innings, but Higgins got the offense going with a tape-measure 418-foot solo homer high off the videoboard in left center with two outs in the fourth, spotting York a 1-0 lead on his 10th home run of the year.

An inning later, the Revs took complete control, exploding for five two-out runs in the fifth. Bubba Alleyne set the stage for the rally with a one-out single and a stolen base, advancing to third on a throwing error. Jaylin Davis was intentionally walked to put runners at the corners, and with two outs, Jeremy Arocho drove a clutch RBI double to deep left, extending the lead to 2-0 while also allowing the floodgates to open. Jalen Miller drilled a ground rule two-run double to left center as he reached the 60 RBI plateau on the season, and Shayne Fontana added an RBI single to center, advancing to second on the throw to the plate. Higgins poked an RBI knock up the first base line, beating out a hustle double and plating Fontana as the lead suddenly expanded to 6-0.

Alleyne cranked a double off the fence in right field and scored when Davis did the same, nailing an RBI double off the center field wall in the top of the sixth as the lead grew to 7-0.

Having taken over for Sanabia, Miranda (2-0) earned his second win in as many outings with the Revs, tossing three no-hit innings while facing the minimum nine batters, striking out three. The former Toronto Blue Jays prospect has now worked 5.2 scoreless frames to begin his Revs career.

Staten Island got on the board in the eighth when Kolby Johnson battled out a leadoff walk against Hunter Dula, stole second, and came around on a pair of groundouts to break up the shutout.

York had one final rally at the dish, scoring three runs in the ninth to reach double figures. Arocho led off with a single to right and Miller lashed his second double of the game on a liner to left. Fontana was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Higgins capped a 4-for-5, four RBI effort with a two-run single into left. Jeffrey Wehler drove in the final run on a shot up the middle that second baseman Eddy Diaz couldn’t handle, resulting in an RBI single on the Revs’ 15th hit of the day.

Mauricio Llovera quickly recorded the first two outs in the ninth and appeared to nearly have the game wrapped up for what would have been the sixth one-hitter in Revs history and just the fourth in a nine-inning game, but a close two-strike pitch was called a ball and Matt Scheffler doubled on the next offering for Staten Island’s second hit of the day. Llovera responded by retiring Pablo Sandoval on a weak grounder to second base to wrap up the Revs’ second two-hitter of the season and the Revs’ fourth win in the past five games.

Notes: Higgins’ four RBI tie a career-high set August 7, 2024 with Double-A Bowie. He is now 13-for-20 (.650) with three doubles, three homers, and 11 RBI in five games on the current road trip. He is also now 18-for-30 (.600) with four homers and 14 RBI in his last eight games and has raised his average to .331 for the year. His 10th home run of the season makes him the sixth Revs player in double digits in long balls this year. The Revs’ other two-hitter this season came May 23 in a 3-0 loss at Lancaster. York (48-29) is back to a season-high 19 games above .500. The Revs pounded a season-high seven doubles, their most in a game since June 23 of last season. York improves to 8-9 against Staten Island, snapping a three-game slide in New York. It marks the 11th time in 17 meetings that the winning score has been in double digits. The Revs’ effort on the mound comes against a Staten Island team that had batted .309 with 7.6 runs per game against them on the season. York is now batting .307 while averaging 7.4 runs per game against Staten Island. The Revs are batting .339 with 9.9 runs per game over their last 12 contests overall. The win is Rick Forney’s 199th as Revs manager; hitting coach Derek Wolfe is serving as acting manager this series with Forney away from the team to be inducted into the American Association Hall of Fame.

Up Next: The Revs conclude their road trip Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with the rubber match at Staten Island, as RHP Foster Pace (7-2, 5.05) squares off against Hawks righty Ryan Kehoe (1-0, 3.68). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and FloBaseball.TV beginning at 6:10 p.m.

High Point Rockers 10, Charleston Dirty Birds 0

HIGH POINT, N.C.- Alex Dickerson drove in five runs and the High Point pitching staff tossed a combined three-hitter as the Rockers defeated the Charleston Dirty Birds 10-0 on Wednesday night at Truist Point.

Starter Brandon Backman, making his first appearance since going on the injured list on May 22, did not allow a hit over his four innings of work while walking two and striking out seven. He was followed by Jake Keys (W, 1-1) who allowed two hits in three innings and Daniel Blair who struck out two and did not allow a hit in the eighth. Ryan Chasse allowed a harmless single in the ninth when the game was well decided.

Dickerson hit a two-run double in the fifth as part of a five-run inning and then added a three-run homer in the seventh. On the night, he was three-for-five with two runs scored and five RBI.

The Rockers continue to hold the Atlantic League’s top overall record at 49-28, holding a one-game lead over the York Revolution. High Point is 8-6 in the second half and in second place behind South Division leader Lexington (9-4).

The game began as a pitcher’s duel. Luis Gonzalez led off the bottom of the first for the Rockers with a bunt single but High Point didn’t collect another hit until D.J. Burt singled in the fourth. His line drive was prosperous, however, driving in Ben Aklinski who had walked and moved to second on a walk to Jack Conley before scoring on Burt’s hit.

Charleston issued six walks to the Rockers in the fifth inning as High Point tallied five runs to take a 6-0 lead. Dickerson drove in two with a double, Aklinski added a sac fly and Burt and Gonzalez each drew bases-loaded walks.

Charleston’s only hits came in the sixth off Gilbert. James Nelson and Benjamin Blackwell each singled with one out but they were erased on a 6-3 double play.

High Point used a walk to Aidan Brewer and a single by Gonzalez to set up Drew Mendoza for an RBI single and a 7-0 lead. Dickerson followed with his three-run blast to finish of the Birds at 10-0.

Charleston starter Eddy Demurias (L, 2-3) allowed just two hits over his 3.2 innings of work and yielded just one run.

Gonzalez and Dickerson each finished with three hits for the Rockers who took advantage of 13 walks issued by Charleston pitchers. The Rockers received at least one walk in all but one inning with five of the runs scoring off free passes.

High Point leads the series 2-0 and will look to finish off the Birds on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. at Truist Point. Rockers fans can catch the action on FLOBASEBALL.TV and on the MixLR app.

NOTES: The Rockers activated Backman and Gilbert prior to Wednesday’s game . . . both had been on the injured list . . . To make room, the Rockers placed LHP Ben Wereski and C Chris Brady on the inactive list.
