High Point Rockers 8, Charleston Dirty Birds 1

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Five High Point Rockers pitchers combined to throw a two-hitter in an 8-1 win over the Charleston Dirty Birds in front of a crowd of 2008 on Wednesday night at Truist Point. Charleston did not get its first hit until James Nelson led off the top of the ninth with a line drive single to right.

Josh Hendrickson (W, 1-0) made his High Point debut after coming over to the Rockers in a trade from the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association. Hendrickson went five hitless innings, walking three and striking out five.

Yuhi Sako kept the Dirty Birds hitless in the sixth with two strikeouts, David Hess did the same in the seventh and Cam Cotter tossed a clean eighth inning. Nelson singled off closer Jameson McGrane and Joe Deluca singled to center to score Nelson and prevent the shutout.

The Rockers tallied all the runs they would need during a five-run fifth inning. Braxton Davidson unloaded a solo shot to lead off the inning before the Rockers took advantage of three walks and an RBI single from Drew Mendoza and a two-run single by Luke Napleton as well as a run scoring on a wild pitch.

High Point added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double from Aidan Brewer and another run-scoring wild pitch. Evan Edwards drove in the final run with a bases-loaded infield groundout in the eighth.

The Rockers took advantage of Charleston’s staff issuing 11 walks. High Point only had five hits in the game.

Charleston starter Marc Davis (L, 0-4) went 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on three hits while walking five and striking out five.

With one game left in the regular season, the Rockers have an opportunity to finish with the best overall record in the Atlantic League. High Point is 74-51 going into Thursday’s finale while the York Revolution are 73-52.

Thursday’s finale is slated for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Truist Point. Rocker fans can catch all the action of every game on FLOBASEBALL.TV and on the MixLR app,

Lancaster Stormers 5, Long Island Ducks 4

Scott Kelly took advantage of an opportunity to beat his former club.

Lancaster’s utility infielder blooped a bases loaded single down the left field line in the bottom of the tenth to defeat the Long Island Ducks, 5-4, in the middle game of a three-game series Wednesday evening at Penn Medicine Park.

Kelly had played for the Ducks from the middle of 2023 through a short stint earlier this season.

After Michael McAvene (7-4) pinned the ITB runner at third in the top of the tenth inning, Mason Martin took the post at second base in the home portion.  Ramon Santos (4-1) threw a wild pitch sending Martin to third and prompting both team to adopt some unusual strategy.  Melvin Mercedes swung at a 3-0 pitch before eventually drawing a walk.  Long Island went to a five-infielder defensive alignment which retired Joe Campagna on a grounder to short.  With runners at second and third, the Ducks walked Alex Isola intentionally to set up the force at the plate.

Kelly got enough of a Santos offering to float it over third baseman Troy Viola down the line for the game-winning hit.

Long Island had tied the game in the top of the ninth when River Town beat out a dribbler to the third base side of the mound with two outs, scoring Viola from third as the save eluded Ryley Gilliam.

Town had staked the Ducks to a quick 1-0 lead on a homer in the first inning off Matt Swarmer.  Isola’s leadoff double, a bunt by Kelly and Daniel Amaral’s grounder tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.

The score remained deadlocked until the sixth when Ronaldo Flores found the right field deck for a two-run homer off Phil Diehl, providing the Ducks with a 3-1 edge.  Joe Campagna struck back with a solo shot off Tanner Jacobson in the bottom of the inning.

Nick Lucky gave the Stormers their first lead of the series with a two-run homer to right center off Brayden Nelson in the home seventh.

Luke McCollough (0-3) will start the season finale for the Stormers on Thursday evening against Leonardo Taveras (0-0).  The full team will be signing autographs prior to the game.  Fans may follow the action on FloBaseball at 6:40.

NOTES:  The game was delayed for 43 minutes by rain after one pitch in the bottom of the first inning…Lancaster has two of its three walkoff wins for the season in the last three games…The Stormers matched their second half (40) and season (71) win totals from last year…It marks the third time in four years that Lancaster has won at least 40 games in the second half.

Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 13, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 13

GASTONIA, N.C. – Despite rallying for six straight runs to take the lead in the seventh inning, the Ghost Peppers fell to the Flying Boxcars on Wednesday afternoon, 14-13, in a game that featured 37 hits.

Hagerstown got off to an immediate 4-0 lead in the first inning off Ljay Newsome.

The Peppers then battled back, chipping away inning by inning until they managed to take a 12-9 lead after the seventh-inning stretch. But the Boxcars responded with five consecutive runs off the Gastonia bullpen, scoring three off Sam Bordner in the ninth to take a late lead.

Bryce Cannon hit a game-winning two-run shot off Bordner, a towering drive to right field. In doing so, Cannon hit for the cycle, previously recording a double, a pair of singles and a triple.

Gastonia kept pace with the Hagerstown offense, crushing four homers on Wednesday.

Carter Aldrete and Nate Scantlin each went yard in the third inning, with Aldrete connecting on his 17th homer in his 46th game with the team.

Scantlin’s long ball went to the opposite field, as did his second home run that he hit in the seventh to give Gastonia a 10-9 advantage.

The other homer was off the bat of Dalton Guthrie – a three-run blast to left that evened the game at 9 in the sixth. Guthrie’s blast was the team’s 200th homer on the season, as the Peppers have now hit 200+ home runs in three straight seasons.

Gastonia became the only organization in ALPB history to have multiple 200+ home run seasons in 2024, and now they’ve become the first to have three.

Following Scantlin’s second long ball, Eric De La Rosa picked up his third hit of the game and proceeded to steal second and third base. His swipe of third was his 50th steal of the year, becoming the first player in franchise history to join the 20-50 club.

Gastonia rallied in the bottom of the ninth, with Justin Wylie doubling in Jonny Barditch and Carter Aldrete coming up as the winning run, but Carlo Reyes picked up his fourth punchout and recorded the win.

The Peppers finish off the regular season against Hagerstown on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

York Revolution 9, Staten Island FerryHawks 1

(September 17, 2025 – Staten Island, NY):  The York Revolution enjoyed a complete team effort in a 9-1 win over the Staten Island FerryHawks on Wednesday night at SIUH Northwell Health Community Park in the next-to-last game of the regular season.

Kyle Martin provided the Revs with a quick jolt, clobbering a solo homer to right with two outs in the first. Martin’s second homer with York tied a Revs franchise record set last season as the Revs blasted their 177th home run as a team. Shayne Fontana (4-for-5) got started on his huge night with a single up the middle to keep the inning alive, and Ryan Higgins drove an RBI double into right center as York jumped to a 2-0 lead.

The Revs added three more in the third inning. Jalen Miller sparked it with a leadoff double to deep left and stole third. Jeremy Arocho walked and stole second to put two in scoring position, and Martin drove both home with a two-run double to right center. Fontana followed with an RBI double to the alley in left center as the Revs built a 5-0 advantage.

York lefty Mike Kickham worked three innings in his final playoff tune up, allowing just an unearned run in the third while striking out five.

Elvis Peralta launched his first homer with the Revs on a majestic drive to right center leading off the fourth as York led 6-1. It was the Revs’ franchise record 178th home run of the year as Peralta became the 23rd different player to go yard for York this season.

Nick Bennett (2-1) followed Kickham, striking out four over two scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Revs plated two more in the sixth as the lead swelled to 8-1. Omar Veloz got things going with a one-out walk and Miller doubled down the third base line. With the infield in, Arocho slapped an RBI single to left, and two batters later, Fontana pounded his own RBI single into right.

Fontana provided the Revs’ final run, leading off the ninth with his 16th home run of the season and his 10th with York on a shot to right center. It capped a season-high four hits for Fontana who is now 6-for-8 in this series and 15-for-20 in five games against the FerryHawks over the past eight days.

Jordan Morales handled two scoreless innings, Josh Mollerus struck out the side in the eighth, and Brendan Cellucci notched a game-ending double play in a scoreless ninth to finish the job out of the Revs’ bullpen.

Of York’s 11 hits, eight went for extra bases (five doubles, three homers).

York pitchers struck out 15 FerryHawk batters in the game, now boasting a league-leading 1,135 strikeouts on the season, fifth most in league history.

The Revs are 73-52 on the season, one game behind High Point for the league’s best overall record heading into Thursday’s finale.

Notes: The Revs improve to a league-best 38-24 on the road. Miller takes over the league lead with his 58th steal, while moving up the franchise’s single-season lists in multiple departments – with two doubles, he ties Elmer Reyes (2022) and Drew Mendoza (2023) for second most in Revs history, behind only teammate Frankie Tostado’s record 47 this year. Miller’s two hits give him 151 on the season, tying Andres Perez (2013) for ninth. His 62 extra-base hits move him past Tostado and two others for fifth all-time. With two runs, Miller is one shy of Matt McDermott for second all-time with 112 on the year. Fontana’s .306 overall average is his highest since May 15; he is now batting .361 with York including a .411 clip in 35 games since August 8. Fontana’s 10th homer with York makes him the ninth Revs batter to double digits in homers this season, tying the club record set in 2022.

Up Next: The Revs close out the regular season Thursday at Staten Island at 10:30am. Lefty Braden Scott (1-0, 2.70) makes the start for York. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and FloBaseball.TV.
