Hagerstown 10, Staten Island 4
After an extensive rain delay, the Staten Island FerryHawks Hagerstown lost to the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars by the final score of 10-4 here in Staten Island at SIUH Community Ballpark.
The scoring began early in this Friday night affair with the Boxcars taking an early 4-0 lead via a grandslam. The Hawks answered quickly however, as Luis Castro launched a soloshot into center field to cut the Boxcars lead to 3. The scoring picked up again in the top of the 3rd when the Boxcars plated two more runs, followed by three more runs in the top of the 4th and 5th to make the score 9-1. The Hawks then answered with a Kolby Johnson RBI to make the score 9-2. The Boxcars continued the offensive attack in the top of the 6th scoring another run to make it a 10-2 game. The Hawks scored two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to make it a 10-4 ballgame. Here, the scoring would end.
Anthony DeFabbia threw for 3 innings in today’s game with 4 hits, 6 earned runs, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by William Kirwan who threw 2 innings of his own with 3 earned runs and a walk. Mark Faello was the next reliever on deck who shined in three innings of relief with an incredible 8 strikeouts with 0 walks on just 3 hits and 1 earned run. J.P Woodward closed out the top of the 9th with two strikeouts to end the ballgame.

Charleston 5, High Point 3
(Charleston, WV – August 2, 2024) – The Dirty Birds are now in first place in Southern Division with .5 game lead over High Point. Charleston defeated the Rockers 5-3 in the opening game of the three-game series.
Kevin Smith earned his third win of the season after allowing just one run in over six innings pitched. The southpaw walked two batters while striking out five batters.
The Dirty Birds pitching staff struck out nine High Point batters while walking four and allowing four hits. Every Charleston batter had at least one hit in the contest. Tillman Pugh had two base hits while Rusber Estrada and Juan Santana had three.
The Dirty Birds host High Point for game two tomorrow at 6:35 pm.
Long Island 7, Lancaster 6
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 2, 2024) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Stormers 7-6 on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
The Ducks took a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Zach Racusin and Alexis Pantoja against Stormers starting pitcher Max Green. Lancaster tied the game at three in the third by way of an RBI double from Gaige Howard a two-run home run to left field from Isan Diaz versus Long Island starter Wei-Yin Chen.
The Flock jumped back out in front 4-3 in the fifth on Racusin’s leadoff four-bagger to left, but the visitors answered right back one half-inning later plating a pair for their first lead of the ballgame at 5-4 on a Joseph Carpenter solo blast and Howard RBI base hit and added an insurance run in the seventh for a 6-4 cushion on Carpenter’s run-scoring single.
The Ducks tied the game at six in the last of the seventh without getting a hit as Racusin crossed the plate on a balk and JC Encarnacion drew a free pass with the bases loaded, one of five walks in the frame allowed by Stormers pitchers. Ivan Castillo’s two-out infield single in the last of the ninth scored Nick Heath all the way from second base as Long Island collected their third waddle-off victory of the season and made it 11 consecutive series opening wins in the process going back to June 28th.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Chen allowed five runs on 11 hits (two home runs) across five and two-thirds innings pitched, walking one and striking out a season-best seven. Green tossed five innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits (one home run) in five innings of work, walking three and striking out two. Ramon Santos (4-1) earned the win after striking out the side in relief. Steffon Moore (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning, walking two and striking out one.
Racusin led the way at the plate with three hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
The Ducks and Stormers continue their three-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, present by PSEG Long Island. Southern Maryland 10, York 6
(August 2, 2024 – Waldorf, Md.): The series opener between the York Revolution and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday night at Regency Furniture Stadium was suspended following a medical emergency involving fans. The game was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning with Southern Maryland leading 10-6.
The Blue Crabs built a big early lead with four runs in the first inning. Anthony Brocato opened the scoring with a two-run homer to left, his 19th of the year. Jomar Reyes added a two-run double down the first base line to make it 4-0 after an inning.
York got on the board in the second as the Blue Crab defense miscommunicated on an infield popup that fell in front of the mound. Michael Berglund was credited with an RBI single on the play.
The Revs pulled within 4-2 with another run in the third. Matt McDermott singled and stole second for his 42nd swipe of the year, tying Tomo Otosaka (2023) for fifth most in a season in franchise history. After advancing on a deep fly out by Donovan Casey, McDermott scored when first baseman Juan Kelly muffed a pickoff attempt at first base.
Southern Maryland extended its lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the third as Aaron Hill lined an RBI double to left and Reyes provided an RBI groundout.
York again answered in the fourth when Alfredo Reyes ripped an RBI single up the middle, plating Jacob Rhinesmith who had led off with a double to right.
Joe Perez clobbered a two-run homer to left center, his first with York, bringing the Revs within 6-5 in the top of the fifth.
Once again, Southern Maryland answered as Hill skied a solo homer to left center, making it 7-5.
McDermott chased Crabs starter Daryl Thompson with a towering homer to left center with one out in the sixth, again drawing York within a run at 7-6.
Southern Maryland was in the middle of a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning when play was suspended.
Notes: Rudy Martin Jr stole two bases, becoming the first in Revs history to 60 steals in a season.
