Long Island Ducks 14, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 7
(Hagerstown, Md., Aug. 22, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 14-7 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Meritus Park.
A sacrifice fly to left field by Seth Beer and a bases loaded walk by Taylor Kohlwey gave the Ducks an early 2-0 lead in the opening inning. It stayed that way until the fifth when a seven-run inning gave the Flock a nine-run advantage. RBI singles to right by Ivan Castillo and Beer and a two-run single to left by Kole Kaler highlighted the inning.
Hagerstown plated three two-out runs against Ducks starter Michael Dominguez in the fifth on bases loaded walks by Aaron Takacs and Cary Arbolida plus an RBI single by Gary Mattis, closing the gap to 9-3. However, five more runs came home for the Flock in the sixth to make it a 14-3 game. An error that scored Leobaldo Cabrera, an RBI single by Kohlwey and a three-run homer by Cody Thomas did the damage.
The Flying Boxcars scratched across a run in the bottom of the sixth on Robby Barham’s RBI double to center. The hosts then closed to within 14-7 in the eighth on Tyler Williams’ two-run single to left and Arbolida’s RBI single to center to round out the scoring.
Dominguez did not factor into the decision but pitched four and two-thirds innings of three-run ball, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out three. Brad Case (4-3) got the win, allowing a run on two hits and four walks in one and one-third innings with two strikeouts. Weisenburger (1-7) took the loss, surrendering six runs on three this and six walks in four innings with one strikeout.
Kohlwey led the Ducks offense with two hits and three walks, driving in two runs and scoring three times. Beer added two hits, two RBIs and two runs, while Castillo collected two hits, an RBI and two runs and Thomas drove in four runs.

Lancaster Stormers 7, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 4
GASTONIA, N.C. – The Ghost Peppers stranded 10 runners on base and fell to the Stormers in Friday’s series opener, 7-4.
Gastonia left seven runners on over the span of three consecutive innings – two in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
The Peppers loaded the bases in the fifth inning and left them loaded – a half-inning after Nick Lucky roped a bases-clearing double to left-center field, with Lancaster able to cash in on that opportunity.
Justin Wylie gave Gastonia an early lead, crushing his 20th home run of the season to the opposite field. Wylie made it 2-0, and the teams went back-and-forth until Lucky’s fifth-inning double gave Lancaster the lead for good.
Wylie, who entered the game with 20 steals on the season, became the fourth player in the ALPB this season to reach the 20-20 club. He’s now reached the plateau in back-to-back seasons with Gastonia, joining the 30-20 club in 2024.
Craig Stem picked up the loss for the Peppers, allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings.
After Stem was taken out, the Peppers ‘pen was dominant, combining for 3.2 scoreless frames between Duane Underwood Jr., Donovan Benoit, Nick Horvath and Thomas King.
Gastonia fell to 23-17 in the second half, and are now tied atop the South with High Point.
The Ghost Peppers aim to even the series on “Superhero Night” at CaroMont Health Park. First pitch on Saturday is 7 p.m.
High Point Rockers 5, Lexington Legends 4
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Ben Aklinski hit a two-run triple in the eighth inning to pull the High Point Rockers from a 4-3 deficit to a 5-4 win over the Lexington Legends in front of a crowd of 2,155 on Friday night at Truist Point. Aklinski drove in three runs on the night to pace the Rockers for their fifth straight win and a 4-0 lead in the six-game series.
The win moves the Rockers to a league-best 64-39 overall record and a 23-17 mark in the second half. The Legends fall to 51-51 on the season and 20-19 in the second half. High Point’s win coupled with Gastonia’s Friday loss to Lancaster moves the Rockers into a tie for first place with the Ghost Peppers in the Atlantic League’s South Division.
Aklinski’s game-winning triple was the last nail in the coffin of the Legends who battled the Rockers throughout the game with excellent pitching and timely hitting.
High Point went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first as Luis Gonzalez and Drew Mendoza greeted Lexington starter Ben Ferrer with back-to-back singles with Gonzalez moving to third on an error by Lexington right fielder E.J. Cumbo. Aklinski then brought home Gonzalez by hitting into a 6-4 fielder’s choice.
The Legends tied the game in the top of the third on a walk to Brian Fuentes and a two-out triple from Xane Washington.
Rockers starter Alex Barker, signed earlier in the day and making his first appearance as a Rocker, went five innings in his first Atlantic League start, holding the Legends to three hits and one run while walking one and striking out four.
Lexington tallied three runs in the sixth off reliever Kyle Halbohn. Andy Atwood led off with a double to center and scored on a bloop single to right by Curtis Terry. Pedro Gonzalez followed with a two-run homer as Lexington went up 3-1.
The Rockers rebounded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth when Drew Mendoza belted a two-run homer to close the margin to 4-3.
Win Scott threw a scoreless seventh inning for High Point, pitching around a walk and a single. Gabe Klobosits (W, 3-0) hurled a three-up, three-down eighth before Jameson McGrane retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his 13th save of the season.
Aklinski’s game-winning triple came off Lexington reliever John Armstrong (L, 0-1) who came on with one on and one out in the eighth. He intentionally walked Mendoza to set up a potential double play but Aklinski spoiled the plan by lining the triple into the right field corner and scoring Burt and Mendoza.
Mendoza was the lone Rocker with two hits while also collecting a pair of RBI. Pedro Gonzalez had two hits and two RBI to go with his home run.
Game five of the six-game series is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start on Saturday at Truist Point as the Rockers will send righty Erich Uelmen (4-3, 3.17) to the mound to face Lexington righty Colton Eastman (8-6, 5.69). Fans will be entertained during the game by the Zooperstars traveling show. Rockers fans can catch all the action on FLOBASEBALL.TV and on the MixLR app.
NOTES: The Rockers acquired Alex Barker from the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League. Barker, who started Friday night, will take the place of Mike Devine in the High Point Rotation . . . Devine is out for the season with a shoulder injury . . . INF Max Viera was placed on the 7-day injured list and is expected back next week . . . The win gives the Rockers a 12-10 season advantage over the Legends . . . High Point’s five-game winning streak is its longest of the second half.

Charleston Dirty Birds 6, York Revolution 5
(August 22, 2025 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution erased three separate deficits and tied the game in the ninth to force extras, but dropped their weekend opener, 6-5 in 10 innings to the Charleston Dirty Birds on Friday night at WellSpan Park.
Charleston grabbed a first inning lead on Chad Sedio’s two-out RBI single to left but the Revs wasted no time in eliminating the deficit.
Jalen Miller led off the home first with a double to right, his 37th of the season tying Ramon Castro (2010) for sixth on the franchise’s all-time list. Jeremy Arocho pushed a bunt single advancing Miller to third before stealing second. York capitalized as Caleb McNeely drove a sac fly to center, sending Miller home with his 100th run scored of the season. William Simoneit slapped an RBI infield single to plate Arocho as they took a 2-1 lead on his 17th RBI in his last 12 games.
Revs lefty Ethan Firoved, making his first pro start, struck out two in a 1-2-3 second inning but allowed an unearned run in the third when he jammed Keon Barnum and exploded the slugger’s bat, but it resulted in a game-tying two-out bloop single to right.
Jordan Morales took over and handled a scoreless fourth, but gave up a two-run double to left center by Barnum in the fifth as York fell behind, 4-2.
Charleston starter Luis de Avila settled in after the first inning barrage and did not allow another hit until Jeffrey Wehler’s two-out broken bat single in the fifth. That brought up Jaylin Davis who hammered a towering two-run homer to the opposite field in right as the Revs drew even at 4-4. It was Davis’ 14th homer of the year and his 11th to the opposite field.
Morales struck out two in a 1-2-3 sixth to finish his outing on a strong note.
Grayson Thurman took over in the seventh and lost a full-count battle to James Nelson with one out, allowing a go-ahead homer to left center after several full count foul balls as Charleston led 5-4 on Nelson’s 29th of the season. Barnum nearly added another with a two-out double off the batters’ eye in center but Jimmy Burnette prevented further damage, retiring Sedio on a great running play by Davis in the left field corner.
Nick Mikolajchak tossed a scoreless eighth, his ninth scoreless outing in 10 appearances with York.
Ian Churchill navigated around a trio of walks, striking out Joe DeLuca to finish the top of the ninth and keep it a one-run game.
Shayne Fontana led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to deep center, extending his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games. Ryan Higgins followed with a bloop single, advancing Fontana to third and setting up Brandon Lewis who delivered a game-tying sac fly to center. Birds closer Reibyn Corona loaded the bases after a walk to Wehler and a hit by pitch of Davis, but got a pair of ground balls to force extras.
After a leadoff walk in the tenth, Alan Alonso bunted both runners ahead. Cam Robinson struck out Ben Blackwell on three pitches for the second out, but nine-hole hitter Demetrius Moorer poked a go-ahead RBI single to right. Fontana gunned down Alsander Womack at the plate, keeping it a one-run game as York trailed 6-5.
After a failed sac bunt attempt, Arocho stole third to put the tying run 90 feet away with one out in the tenth for the Revs. Simoneit drew a walk to put the winning run aboard, but right hander Lance Lusk notched a strikeout and a fielder’s choice to end it as the Revs suffered just their seventh defeat in a final at-bat all season (14-7).
York looks to even the series Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with LHP Mike Kickham (7-8, 4.73) making the start. It continues the homestand sponsored by West Shore Wildlife. Staten Island FerryHawks 10, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 6
The Staten Island FerryHawks turned in a dominant offensive performance on Friday night, powering past the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 10–6, at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. Fueled by standout efforts from Kolby Johnson and Cris Rodriguez, Staten Island racked up 15 hits and delivered one of their most complete showings of the season at the plate.
Kolby Johnson sparked the attack from the top of the lineup, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored. The speedy outfielder consistently found barrels and set the tone for a FerryHawks offense that was relentless from the first pitch to the final out.
Cris Rodriguez came through in the heart of the order, delivering a 3-for-5 night with four RBIs. He drove in runs in key moments throughout the game, helping Staten Island maintain control each time the Blue Crabs threatened to close the gap.
Veteran slugger Pablo Sandoval also made his presence felt, picking up multiple hits and driving in a run with a sharply hit double. Eddy Diaz added to the offensive outburst with two hits and a pair of RBIs, giving Staten Island valuable production from the lower part of the lineup.
Southern Maryland kept things close on several occasions, but each time the Blue Crabs inched back into the contest, Staten Island responded with timely hits and efficient situational baseball. The FerryHawks’ bullpen held firm in the final frames, shutting the door to secure the win.
The series continues Saturday evening at SIUH Community Park.
