Long Island Ducks 9, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 1
(Hagerstown, Md., July 4, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 9-1 on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game series at Meritus Park.
Long Island jumped out in front 3-0 in the top half of the first inning on run-scoring base knocks from Troy Viola and Cody Thomas and an RBI single produced by JC Encarnacion against Hagerstown starting pitcher Quinton Martinez. The Ducks made it 4-0 in the second on River Town’s RBI double.
Leading 5-0 in the fourth, the Flocked plated three more runs for a commanding 8-0 edge thanks to a bases clearing three-run double off the bat of Encarnacion. The eight-run advantage was more than enough for Ducks starter David Griffin, who retired the first 13 batters he faced to begin his night on the mound before issuing a walk to Joe DeLuca with one away in the fifth. Griffin surrendered a leadoff free pass to Justin Acal in the sixth but finished his evening on the bump in dominant fashion as the right-hander erased the final four batters he faced all by way of the strikeout.
The Flying Boxcars came to bat in the bottom of the eighth frame still without a hit in the ballgame, but Dante Leach’s two-out RBI single to left centerfield off reliever Ryan Langford scored Mark Black to end the no-hit and shutout bid as Hagerstown now trailed 8-1. Chris Roller’s run-scoring base hit in the ninth rounded out the scoring in the contest.
Griffin (5-1) was the winner as the right hander did not allow a hit or a run in seven innings pitched, walking two and striking out nine. Martinez (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) on ten hits across four innings of work, striking out seven.
Roller, Thomas and Kole Kaler had three hits apiece, Encarnacion drove in four runs while Town and Viola each had a pair of hits and runs scored for the Flock.

Lancaster Stormers 11, Charleston Dirty Birds 10
The 4th of July didn’t lack fireworks at Penn Medicine Park. Neither after nor during the first of a three-game set between Lancaster and Charleston.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first when Evan Alexander walked and eventually scored via a throwing error by Dirty Bird’s catcher, BJ Lopez. After singling himself, Nick Ward plated thanks to a two-out base hit by Ariel Sandoval
Charleston second baseman Alsander Womack put his team on the board with a solo home run in the next frame. In the bottom half of that second inning, the Stormers took a 6-1 lead thanks to a hit batter, two bunt singles, and two walks allowed by Charleston starter Jamison Hill.
However, Womack brought his squad closer in the top of the fourth with his second home run of the game. He had two altogether this season prior. But have no fear, Stormers fans. Joseph Carpenter cleared the right field wall in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast of his own, and the Lancaster advantage was back to five.
Charleston leadoff man James Nelson cranked his 15th homer of the year to lead off the fifth. That made it 8-4 Stormers. In the next frame, the Dirty Birds notched three runs on four hits and were within a single score.
Lancaster answered the Charleston surge with one of its own in the top of the sixth. The Stormers batted around to score three in the inning. Evan Alexander, however, did strike out with the bases loaded to end the frame, so despite the 11-7 score, the door was left ajar.
Charleston kicked that door open in the eighth with three more runs of five hits, including a solo home run by Travis Demeritte and a pair of RBI hits by Chad Sedio and Joseph Rosa.
So the count was 11-10 Lancaster entering the ninth inning’s later half, and it was all left up to the right arm of Gerson Moreno. The righty walked Womack to start, got Lopez to ground out, and then the Stormers caught their break. On a ball pitched to Demeritte, Womack slipped while retreating to second base. He got caught in between bags and was gunned out at second by Lancaster catcher Alex Isola. Nelson struck out to end it, and the Stormers faithful watched the postgame fireworks show with smiles on their faces.
The second game of the series is set for tomorrow at 6:45. Right-hander Noah Skirrow (7-3) takes the bump for Lancaster, while Kyle McGowin (1-4) is set to start for Charleston. Tune in to watch the action on FloBaseball at 6:40.
Lexington Legends 11, Southern Maryland 7
Lexington, KY- The Legends kicked off their Fourth of July weekend in front of a sold-out home crowd, welcoming in the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for a three-game series. Lexington looked to get back on track after going 2-4 on their most recent road trip. Dustin Beggs got the start for the Legends, while Southern Maryland gave the start to Garrett Martin.
Southern Maryland wasted no time in scoring as Jackson Loftin hit a lead-off home run to left. The Legends did not wait long to get going either, as Dylan Rock launched a lead-off home run of his own to tie the game up in the first. This was followed by a ground-rule double from Curtis Terry, who was then subsequently driven in by a two-run homer hit by EJ Cumbo. The home run derby continued in the second inning as Pierce Howard launched a solo shot of his own to bring the Blue Crabs within one run. However, the Legends ended up being gifted a run as Rock drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in the first. Brady Whalen followed this up with an RBI single that plated two before another run came in on a balk. EJ Cumbo Joined in on the fun by laying down a single to bring in another run, making it an 8-2 ballgame. The excitement continued in the third as Loftin launched his second lead-off home run of the game.
Both starters settled in during the middle three innings, which brought the game to a complete halt. This caused both teams to go three up and three down in the fourth. EJ Cumbo’s lead-off single got the offensive gears turning again, but he was left stranded. The Blue Crabs found their fourth hit of the game with Ethan Wilson’s out-double in the Sixth, but Southern Maryland would come up empty-handed once again. Lexington found another hit at the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off single from Austin Bates, but the score ultimately stayed the same.
The Blue Crabs blasted the scoring open again in the seventh with a lead-off triple from Pearce Howard that was followed by a two-run homer from Dondrei Hubbard that brought it within three. This brought Dalton Ross into the game, who was able to tally a strikeout before forcing the double play to get out of the inning. However, Lexington was able to pull away in the seventh. The first one came across on an Andy Atwood ground rule double that was followed by an RBI single from Bates that brought two runs across, putting the Legends up 11-5. Southern Maryland continued to chip away at Lexington’s lead as they were able to bring two across on sac flies from Howard and Brett Berrera. However, this would not prove to be enough as Jonathan Haab sat the Blue Crabs down without a challenge.
Lexington gets the win 11-5 in the series opener against the Blue Crabs. The win is given to Dustin Beggs, who improves his record to 2-0, and the loss is given to Garrett Martin, whose record goes to 2-3 on the year. The series will continue tomorrow, July 5th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM, followed by another round of the best fireworks show in town, thank to our friends at Kinetic by Windstream.
High Point Rockers 4, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 3 (10 innings)
GASTONIA, N.C. – The Ghost Peppers failed to protect a 3-0 lead in the eighth inning, falling to the Rockers 4-3 in 10 innings on the 4th of July.
Gastonia got off to a great start Friday, scoring in three of the first four innings and getting 4.2 scoreless innings from Matt Hartman who retired the first 14 batters he faced.
Cole Roederer and Brian O’Grady each recorded RBI base hits, and Ethan Skender supplied fireworks by hitting his sixth homer of the season in the fourth. Skender’s solo shot made it 3-0 Peppers, a score that lasted until the eighth.
Hartman faced the minimum through 14 batters, allowing his only hit of the game when Braxton Davidson’s comebacker got the right-hander’s body and forced Hartman to exit the game.
Davidson got the Rockers on the board, crushing his fifth home run of the year to the opposite field in the eighth frame off Ryan Hennen. The southpaw Hennen allowed back-to-back baserunners after the homer, causing Nick Horvath to come on in relief.
Horvath then gave up two consecutive RBI singles by Luis Gonzalez and Max Viera, as High Point tied the game at 3.
The Ghost Peppers had an opportunity to win the game in the ninth, with the bases loaded for Jack Reinheimer. But the captain grounded into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to send the game to extras.
Viera recorded his second RBI of the game in the 10th, hitting a sac fly to plate Aidan Brewer.
Gastonia was unable to score the ghost runner in the bottom of the 10th, stranding two runners on and falling 4-3 in the series opener.
The Peppers look to even the series up on Saturday in the penultimate game of the first half. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
York Revolution 13, Staten Island FerryHawks 9
(July 4, 2025 – Staten Island, NY): The York Revolution enjoyed another big offensive outburst, downing the Staten Island FerryHawks 13-9 on Independence Day evening at SIUH Northwell Health Community Park. The Revs have won back-to-back games, scoring 13 runs in each contest, as they tie a season-high 17 games over .500 at 39-22.
The Revs pounded out 14 hits including five extra-base hits and stole nine bases, one shy of a team record for a single game. Jeffrey Wehler was on base all five times, going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and three runs scored. Marty Costes also drove in three and scored three, and Jeremy Arocho ripped a season-high three hits. Jalen Miller led the way in the stolen base department with a trio of swipes while Arocho and Wehler both stole multiple bags.
The Revs put together their 18th comeback win of the year and their fifth from down at least four runs, as they recovered from a bumpy start.
Staten Island scored two in the first as Kolby Johnson led off with a homer off the batters’ eye and Nick Decker homered to right with two outs.
The FerryHawks dinked and dunked their way to two more runs in the second, loading the bases thanks in part to a pair of jam shot singles. Eddy Diaz’ infield single plated one and Johnson’s soft ground out pushed home another as the Revs trailed 4-0.
York responded in a huge way in the third. Costes’ two-out RBI single to left got the Revs on the board, and after William Simoneit was hit by a pitch, Wehler blasted a game-tying three-run homer off the center field batters’ eye for his second consecutive three-RBI game, tying the game at 4-4.
Costes put York ahead with a two-out, two-run double down the left field line in the top of the fourth as the Revs plated six unanswered to go up 6-4.
Aaron Takacs served an RBI single into right in the bottom of the fourth as the Hawks pulled within 6-5, but Revs starter Chris Vallimont (2-1) set down the next eight consecutive batters, striking out four of five at one point.
York’s offense continued to pad the lead. Arocho took advantage of the FerryHawks’ decision to intentionally walk Miller in the fifth, ripping a two-run single into right center to extend the lead to 8-5.
Brandon Lewis drilled a two-run double to left in the top of the sixth as the Revs reached double figures with a 10-5 lead, and a double play grounder off the bat of Ryan Higgins pushed home one more.
Staten Island chipped together three consecutive singles with two outs in the sixth as Johnson’s infield knock brought home a run to make it 11-6, but Diaz ran into the final out at the plate to end the inning.
The Revs offense made it five consecutive innings scoring multiple runs as Simoneit cracked a two-run double to the gap in right center in the top of the seventh, extending the lead to 13-6 while also prolonging his hitting streak to a season-best nine consecutive games.
Staten Island continued to pester, scoring a pair of runs in the seventh on a wild pitch and a Brandon Martorano RBI single, but lefty Danny Denz retired Cristhian Rodriguez on an inning-ending double play ball to hold the lead at 13-8.
Johnson picked up his fourth RBI of the game on a double off Dallas Woolfolk in the eighth, but Ian Churchill struck out Decker to end the inning with the tying run on deck.
Mauricio Llovera took care of a scoreless ninth to close out the win.
Notes: The Revs have won three straight against the FerryHawks, improving to 5-5 head-to-head on the season. The two teams are meeting for the third of four consecutive weekends. York has scored 13 or more runs in back-to-back games for the first time since July 10-11 of last season when they dropped 16 and 15, respectively, on the Long Island Ducks in back-to-back road victories. The Revs have won three consecutive years on July 4, and are victorious in four of the past five seasons. Friday marked their first road game on the 4th since 2019.
