Staten Island FerryHawks 8, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 6

Staten Island’s Shane Barringer took the mound for the FerryHawks, looking to help the FerryHawks reset the tone and get back in the win column. The game opened with a quiet first inning, save for a single from second baseman Damon Dues.

Momentum swung quickly in the top of the second when Flying Boxcars right fielder Cary Arbolida launched a three-run home run, putting the visitors on top early, 3–0.

But the FerryHawks stormed back in the bottom of the third. Center fielder Shayne Fontana crushed a three-run homer to tie the game, and right fielder Aaron Takacs followed with a go-ahead RBI single to give Staten Island a 4–3 lead.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the FerryHawks reignited the offense in the bottom of the sixth. Shortstop Eddy Diaz drove in a run with a single, chasing Hagerstown starter Domenic Picone from the game after surrendering seven hits and five runs. Quinton Martinez came on in relief, but the hits kept coming—Fontana added a sacrifice fly to bring home Drew Maggi, and left fielder Mark Contreras chipped in an RBI single to extend the lead to 7–3.

Barringer wrapped up his day with a solid outing, allowing just two hits and three runs, followed by Reinier Parra in the eighth.

The Flying Boxcars mounted a rally in the eighth, taking advantage of an RBI double and a costly error by third baseman Drew Maggi to bring in three runs and trim the deficit to 7–6. After another pitching change, Rafael Kelly entered for Hagerstown, but Staten Island added an insurance run when Maggi scored on a fielding error by second baseman Gary Mattis, pushing the lead to 8–6.

Luis Guzman came on in the ninth to close things out for the FerryHawks. The Flying Boxcars threatened, but couldn’t overcome the deficit, as Staten Island held on for the win.

Lancaster Stormers 15, Charleston Dirty Birds 6

The Lancaster offense peaked again on Friday evening.

Andrew Semo drove in four runs, and Blake Mayberry added a three-run triple as the Stormers took down the Charleston Dirty Birds, 15-6, in the opener of a three-game series at GoMart Ballpark.

Lancaster has averaged nearly nine runs in its wins this season and 15 in the last six victories.

This time the offense surged late.

Yeison Coca snapped a 6-6 tie in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI single up the middle off Samuel Reyes (2-3), scoring Joseph Carpenter.  The big blows came in the final two innings.  In the eighth, the Stormers loaded the bases on a double by Danny Amaral and a pair of walks.  Dave Matthews forced home a run with a walk on a full count pitch.  Semo plugged the gap in right center with his double, clearing the bags.  He was thrown out, trying to take third.

Amaral tripled home Slater Schield with an unearned run in the top of the ninth.  Again, Mason Martin and Isola drew walks.  Mayberry, batting for Joseph Carpenter, hit a liner on a similar trajectory to Semo’s.  The ball took a turf hop over the head of center fielder Zach Daniels, and all three runners raced home again.

Earlier in the night, the lead kept exchanging hands.  Martin gave the Stormers the initial edge with his 15th homer of the season, a liner over the boards in right.  Coca singled home a run, and Amaral produced a run with a bases loaded ground ball for a 3-0 lead in the second.

Daniels and shortstop Joseph Rosa led a Charleston comeback.  The center fielder doubled in each of his first three at bats with his third inning two-bagger scoring a pair of runs.  Rosa drove him home with a base hit each time, producing leads of 5-4 and 6-5.

Isola slugged a leadoff homer to left in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5 and a bases loaded double play grounder in the sixth knotted the game at 6-6.

Cody Stashak (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief.  Scott Engler and Phil Diehl wrapped it up around a brief ninth-inning rain delay.

Keylan Killgore (1-3) will make the start for the Stormers on Saturday against right-hander Jamison Hill (1-4).  Fans may tune into FloBaseball beginning at 6:30.

NOTES:  The triples by Amaral and Mayberry were the first two by the Stormers since May 1…Martin’s homer was his 42nd as a Stormer…Semo had his second four-RBI game of the season…Stashak has thrown six scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts over his two stints with Lancaster…Lancaster has scored 85 runs in the last six wins.

High Point Rockers 3, Long Island Ducks 1

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The High Point Rockers scored a couple of runs early in the game and made the lead hold up over the scoreless final six frames in taking a 3-1 decision from the Long Island Ducks on Friday night in the series opener at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The win puts the Rockers at 31-12, the best record through 43 games in club history. High Point has an eight-game lead over second place Southern Maryland in the Atlantic League’s South Division.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the first off Rockers starter Kent Emanuel (W, 6-0). With one down, River Town singled and moved to second on a single by Troy Viola. Ronaldo Flores then singled sharply to left to plate Town with the first run of the game.

The Rockers used some two-out magic to tie the game in the second. With two down, Braxton Davidson drew a walk from Long Island starter Tyler Beede (L, 0-1). Jack Conley rallied from an 0-2 count to draw a walk and Aidan Brewer followed with a bloop single to right that scored Davidson and moved Conley to third. Beede was able to fan Cody Wilson to escape the inning and keep the game tied.

The Rockers tallied two runs in the third, again with two outs. Ben Aklinski singled and moved to third on a single by Luis Gonzalez. Max Viera doubled to right field to score both runners and give High Point a 3-1 advantage.

Emanuel went seven strong innings, holding the Ducks to six hits while not allowing a walk and striking out seven. Jonah Scolaro retired a pair of Ducks in the eighth but left with two aboard. Kyle Halbohn came on and struck out Justin O’Conner before putting the Ducks down in order in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

Beede, who pitched in the Major Leagues last year with the Cleveland Guardians, was making his debut with the Ducks and fell to 0-1.

Viera finished with a pair of hits for the Rockers who had seven safeties on the night. The Rockers held the Ducks to six hits on the night while issuing three walks and striking out 10.

York Revolution 3, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 2

(June 13, 2025 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution clawed back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, downing the Gastonia Ghost Peppers 3-2 on Friday evening at WellSpan Park to open a six-game homestand. The Revs improve to 29-14 with their fourth consecutive win, increasing their first place lead to a season-high six games in the North Division with 20 to play in the season’s first half.

J.C. Ramirez gave the Revs an outstanding effort on the mound, tossing five innings of scoreless ball on just three hits. He walked one, struck out two, and rolled a pair of double play grounders throwing just 63 pitches, 47 of which were strikes.

York led 1-0 as Jeffrey Wehler drilled a solo homer to left center in the bottom of the fourth for his seventh of the year, tying for the team lead.

Wehler’s homer was the only damage done to Gastonia starter Duane Underwood Jr who held York to five hits in six innings, striking out five without a walk.

Gastonia went ahead in the sixth on solo homers by Dalton Guthrie and Brian O’Grady, both coming off reliever Dallas Woolfolk who returned to make his first appearance in nine days.

The Ghost Peppers threatened to increase their lead in the seventh, setting the table with a hit by pitch and a walk from Revs reliever Hunter Dula, but catcher William Simoneit nailed Eric De La Rosa attempting to steal third for a key first out. With two aboard, Dula coaxed a fly out from Guthrie, and Noah Denoyer entered to strike out Cole Roederer, stranding two in scoring position.

Denoyer (3-0) returned for a scoreless eighth, helped by the Revs’ third ground ball double play turned of the night.

York had threatened in the bottom of the seventh before leaving runners at the corners, but the Revs came through in the clutch an inning later.

Frankie Tostado (12-game hitting streak) ripped a one-out single to right to get things started in the eighth, and the Revs eventually loaded the bases with two outs against righty Ariel Hernandez after Brandon Lewis was hit by a pitch and Jaylin Davis worked a walk. Closer Nick Snyder entered in search of a four-out save and got ahead of Bubba Alleyne but plunked the Revs’ center fielder in the foot with an 0-2 slider, forcing Tostado home with the tying run. Simoneit took a four-pitch walk to bring home Wehler with the go-ahead run as York nabbed its 14th come-from-behind victory of the year and its eighth win decided in the final at-bat.

Cam Robinson yielded a one-out double to De La Rosa and issued a two-out walk before retiring Guthrie on a fly out to right field, stranding runners at the corners while securing his league-leading 10th save of the year.

Notes: There were a combined seven hit batters in the game including four Revs hitters; it marked the eighth time in franchise history the Revs had reached four times or more on hit by pitches and the first time since they tied a record with five on July 4, 2023 vs Charleston. The 29-14 record is the Revs’ best through 43 games in franchise history, three games ahead of the 2016 and 2024 squads. Tostado’s 12-game hitting streak is the longest by a Revs batter this season; his two hits give him a league-leading 60 hits on the year. Rookie outfielder Blake McRae picked up his first career hit on a bunt single in the fifth. York pitching owns a 1.25 ERA on the current four-game winning streak, having allowed a total of five runs in the four games. The Revs are 4-0 against the Ghost Peppers this season. The Revs improve to 5-11 when trailing after six innings and earn their third win when down after seven.

Roster Move: The Revs signed 26-year-old infielder Jeremy Arocho prior to Friday’s game. The switch hitter debuted at second base and singled in his first at-bat while stealing second base. A native of Glen Burnie, MD, Arocho has played in the Dodgers, Angels, and Astros organizations reaching the Triple-A level. York released rookie infielder Justin Acal to open a roster spot.

Up Next: York hosts Gastonia on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with RHP Wes Scott (2-3, 3.97) facing Peppers righty Matt Hartman (0-0, 3.00). The night features Postgame Fireworks presented by Explore York and the Explore York Makers Fair.
