The Flock sent 10 batters to the plate in the top half of the fifth inning and scored five runs off Flying Boxcars starting pitcher Julian Minaya for a 5-0 advantage, highlighted by Kole Kaler’s sacrifice fly, a two-run single produced by Ivan Castillo, and RBI base hits from Taylor Kohlwey and Troy Viola. Staten Island FerryHawks 4, York Revolution 1

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island’s own Ryan Kehoe delivered a storybook debut on Saturday afternoon, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his first professional win and lift the FerryHawks to a 4–1 victory over the York Revolution at SIUH Community Park.

With his family, friends, and former teammates on hand, Kehoe took the mound in front of a hometown crowd and made the most of the moment — helping snap a FerryHawks skid and injecting energy into the weekend series.

Making his first FerryHawks start, Alex Mack held York in check early. Staten Island broke the scoreless tie in the third when Eddy Diaz brought home Alberto Osuna with a sacrifice fly. York answered in the fifth with a Brandon Lewis RBI single, prompting a call to the bullpen.

That’s when Kehoe — a graduate of Great Kills Little League, St. Peter’s Boys High School, and the College of Staten Island — took over. The right-hander scattered three hits across 3.1 shutout innings, silencing the Revolution offense and giving Staten Island a chance to regain control.

The FerryHawks offense did just that in the seventh. Aaron Takacs ripped a go-ahead RBI double into the left-center gap to score Brandon Martorano. Drew Maggi and Mark Contreras followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to cap a three-run frame and extend the lead to 4–1.

Robbie Baker closed things out with a clean ninth to secure the win — and Kehoe’s first professional decision.

The FerryHawks and Revolution wrap up their series Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at SIUH Community Park.

Gastonia Ghost Peppers 3, High Point Rockers 2

GASTONIA, N.C. – The Gastonia Ghost Peppers broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the eighth inning to claim a 3-2 win over the High Point Rockers Saturday night at CaroMont Health Park.

The Rockers are now 40-22 in the first half and have wrapped up the South Division’s first half championship. Sunday’s contest at 4 p.m. at Gastonia will be the final game of the first half.

On Saturday, the Rockers faced 35-year-old righty Craig Stem who went 16-22 as a starting pitcher for the Rockers from 2019-2023. Stem went five innings and held the Rockers to three hits and two runs while walking two and striking out five.

Gastonia went up 1-0 in the first inning when Nate Scantlin led off the frame with a solo homer off Rockers starter Jared Henry.

The Rockers took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Stem loaded the bases and Ian Yetsko reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed one run to score. Luis Gonzalez then drew a walk with the bases full to force in a second run.

Gastonia tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth when Narciso Crook scored from second on an errant pickoff throw from Rockers catcher Nolan Watson.

The game remained 2-2 until the eighth inning.

Facing Zach Vennaro (L, 0-1) in the eighth, Gastonia’s Brian O’Grady started the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Narciso Crook. A double steal put the runners and second and third before Kevin Watson, Jr. grounded out to second, allowing O’Grady to score the go-ahead run.

Gastonia’s Bryan Blanton put the Rockers down in order to earn the save. Art Warren pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Peppers to earn the win (W, 1-0).

Max Viera finished with two of High Point’s five hits on the night.

NOTES: The Rockers activated INF Carlos Amezquita and RHP Justin Lewis from the injured list prior to Saturday’s game . . . Amezquita started in left field.

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9, Lexington Legends 3

Lexington, KY- After taking the first game the night prior, Lexington looked to take the series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in game two in front of a crowd of over 2,200.The Legends gave the start to Wilton Castillo while Southern Maryland handed it to Ian Kahaloa

Lexington did not wait long to get on the board as JT Riddle sent the first pitch he saw flying over the right field wall, making it 1-0 in the first. Neither team was able to find anything in the second inning, but the Blue Crabs were able to get on the board in the third. Dondrei Hubbard laid down an RBI double that plated the first run before Alejandro De Aza and Ethan Wilson hit sac flies that brought in two runs to make it 3-1 going into the middle three innings.

Southern Maryland threatened to pull away in the fourth when they found themselves with bases loaded and no outs. However, Castillo was able to tally a strikeout and force contact to get out of the jam. The Blue Crabs added another in the fifth with a sac fly hit by Berrera. Jack Lynch relieved Castillo of his duties in the sixth, and he was able to sit down the Blue Crabs’ batters without much issue.

Bererra continued to make an impact in the seventh inning as his two-run homer in the seventh extended the Blue Crabs’ lead to five. However, Lexington would begin to chip away at the Southern Maryland lead with a two-run home run of their own from Isaias Quiroz that made it a 6-3 ballgame. The Blue Crabs immediately struck back in the eighth inning as Sam Dexter and Ryan McCarthy hit back-to-back home runs to make it 9-3. Despite Lexington’s best efforts, they were unable to come back as Southern Maryland closed out the game.

Lancaster Stormers 7, Charleston Dirty Birds 5

Dave Matthews and Nick Ward slammed home runs on Saturday evening, and the Lancaster bullpen was able to fend off a persistent Charleston attack as the Stormers defeated the Dirty Birds, 7-5, at Penn Medicine Park.

With the win, the Stormers advanced their record to .500 at 31-31, heading into the final game of the first half.

Matthews followed a Danny Amaral RBI double with a three-run blast onto the right field deck to stake Lancaster to a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second.

Noah Skirrow (8-3) was able to hold the lead through five innings, thanks to a pair of defensive gems by the infielders.  With the bases loaded in the fourth, Ward went airborne to pluck a line drive by Travis Demeritte out of the air and double Alsander Womack off second base to end a bases loaded threat.  Yeison Coca made a diving catch of a James Nelson liner to start the fifth inning, an inning in which the Dirty Birds still managed a two-out run on a single to center by Joseph Rosa.

Ward’s two-run homer off Kyle McGowin (1-5) in the bottom of the fifth stretched the lead to 6-3.  The scalding hot Alsander Womack homered to left off A.J. Alexy to open the sixth.  Charleston loaded the bases later in the inning, but Billy Sullivan entered to strike out slugger Keon Barnum to end the inning with the 6-4 lead.

Ward delivered a two-out, two-strike single up the middle to pick up his third RBI of the night in the bottom of the sixth.  Sullivan was reached for a run in the top of the seventh before the right-hander struck out Demeritte and retired James Nelson on a harmless fly to right.

Scott Engler shook off a leadoff single by Benjamin Blackwell in the eighth inning, and Jackson Rees worked around Womack’s ninth straight hit, a double in the ninth.  Rees earned his first save.
