Lancaster Stormers 8, York Revolution 1

After a slew of rainy days, Saturday night produced perfect baseball weather, and the Lancaster Stormers took advantage of it. Ross Peeple’s squad has now won four consecutive series after Saturday’s 8-1 drubbing of the York Revolution.

The offense started in the bottom half of the third for Lancaster when right fielder Joseph Carpenter reached on an infield single. The knock extended Carpenter’s hit streak to seven games. LeDarious Clark replaced Carpenter after a fielder’s choice in the next at bat. Clark stole second and was on his way to third when leadoff man Danny Amaral dropped a single into center to score the run.

Stormers starter Noah Bremer allowed just one run in five innings of work. The tally came on a game-tying RBI infield single from York second-baseman Jalen Miller in the top of the fifth. Other than that, Bremer was clean in the evening, giving up five hits while striking out three.

The Stormers quickly got that run back when Joseph Carpenter blasted a solo home run over the wall in right. It was Carpenter’s fourth homer of the year.

In the top of the sixth, York posed its biggest threat of the night. A single by designated hitter Marty Costes followed by two straight walks loaded the bases. Stormers reliever A.J. Alexy was removed and replaced by Michael McAvene, who forced York catcher Michael Berglund into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play.

Lancaster opened the floodgates in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop Yeison Coca drew a walk to start the spurt with the top of the order set to follow. Two quick outs were recorded, before first baseman Mason Martin and catcher Alex Isola drew back-to-back walks. With the bases loaded, designated hitter Ariel Sandoval cracked a single into center, scoring two. Second baseman Nick Lucky followed with a ground-rule double into the left field corner, scoring Isola. Carpenter delivered again, lacing a two run two-bagger to right center, providing the bullpen a 7-1 lead to head into the seventh.

Lancaster’s bullpen took over from there. McAvene pitched two more innings, and right-hander Kyle Johnson followed him to close. The Stormers walked off the field victors by a score of 8-1, and clinched the series win over York. The third contest of the three-game set is on tap for tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. Right-hander Noah Skirrow (3-1) takes the bump for Lancaster, while 6-foot-9 righty Tyler Palm (1-0) gets the ball for the Revs.  Fans may tune into FloBaseball, beginning at 1:55.

NOTES:  Lancaster is 6-2 on its current homestand…Carpenter is 12-for-27 (.444) in his hitting streak…Sandoval has 10 RBI in the last five games and is 4-for-6 with the bases loaded on the season…McAvene has not allowed a run since May 1, covering 9.2 IP…The Stormers placed RHP’s Matt Swarmer and Tim Brennan on the 7-day injured list prior to Saturday’s game…Neither will make the upcoming trip to Staten Island.

Staten Island FerryHawks 4, Long Island Ducks 3

A chilly Saturday night on Long Island set the stage for the 11th

meeting of the season between the Staten Island FerryHawks and the

Long Island Ducks. Staten Island, after soundly defeating Long Island

9-1 on Friday night, looked to remain undefeated at Fairfield

Properties Ballpark heading into game two of the set. Following a close 4-3 win in extra innings, the FerryHawks not only remain undefeated when visiting Long Island (5-0), but they are also undefeated in extra inning contests as well (3-0).

On the mound for the FerryHawks was southpaw Shane Barringer.

Barringer began his first start as a FerryHawk by throwing three

scoreless innings. Despite giving up three runs, two of which were earned, he put

together a quality start. In six innings pitched, he struck out five

and allowed four hits.

After five scoreless innings from Long Island starter David Griffin,

Staten Island’s bats woke up in the top of the sixth inning. With two

runners on and one out, Damon Dues hit a line drive up the middle that

scored Shayne Fontana from second base and advanced Nate Scantlin to

third. Aaron Takacs followed up Dues by hitting a sacrifice fly that

brought Scantlin home. Leading 2-1 going into the bottom half of the

inning, the Ducks scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead after six.

In the top of the seventh, Staten Island’s .255 batting average with

two outs and runners in scoring position wasn’t enough, as Nate

Scantlin struck out on a 3-2 pitch. The FerryHawks were able to score

in the top of the eighth, however, and knot things back up. Dues picked up his second hit and RBI of the night via a ground ball up the middle to plate Eddy

Diaz from third. After eight innings, the game was tied at three.

Spectacular relief pitching from Luis Guzman, Kirby Snead, and Robbie

Baker kept the Ducks off the board in the back third of the game. The contest was tied 3-3 after nine innings and went into extras.

With Scantlin placed on second base as the designated runner in the

top of the 10th, Aaron Takacs was able to single him home with two outs in the visiting half of the 10th. Up 4-3, Matt Dunaway got the call- making his first appearance since May 10th. Asked to pitch a clean inning while inheriting the extra-innings runner on second, Dunaway struck out the three batters he faced to pick up his first save of the season.

The FerryHawks will be back in action tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. at

Fairfield Properties Ballpark and go for the sweep. Following this rendition of the Battle of the Belt, the FerryHawks will head back home for six straight against the Lancaster Stormers this Tuesday-Sunday. Highlighting the homestand in Star Wars night, slated for Saturday, May 31st. Following the Star Wars night game and festivities, there will also be post-game fireworks!

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 7

Hagerstown, MD – May 24, 2025: The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs erupted for seven runs in the third inning and held off a late push from the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars to claim a 9–7 victory Saturday night in Hagerstown.

The third-inning outburst proved to be the difference as the Blue Crabs, who sent 11 batters to the plate, racking up six hits and capitalizing on a wild outing by Boxcars starter Daniel Corcino (1-4). Trailing 2-0 entering the third, Pearce Howard doubled to begin the inning, Ryan McCarthy was hit by the next pitch, then Howard was brought home by a Jackson Loftin RBI single. Ethan Wilson then hit another RBI single to right field, then later Dondrei Hubbard smoked an RBI hit, followed by John Taylor smacking a two run double to right center field capping the scoring in the frame.

Blue Crabs first baseman Dondrei Hubbard led the way at the plate, going 4-for-5 with an RBI, while Loftin added three hits, including a double. Taylor chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.

Despite being outhit 14–12, Southern Maryland’s bullpen held strong after John Kelly, who allowed five runs (four earned) over four innings. Joey Hennessey (1-3) picked up the win, while closer Cody Thompson notched his second save, escaping a tense ninth inning after Hagerstown had trimmed the deficit to two runs.

For Hagerstown, Orlando Abreu launched his seventh home run of the season, and Miles Williams added a two-run blast in the fourth inning. Chris Kwitzer had a strong night with three hits, including a double and an RBI. Despite the offensive output, the Boxcars couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

The Crabs improve to 13-11 on the season, as they go for the sweep of Hagerstown on Sunday at Meritus Park.

High Point Rockers 6, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 2

GASTONIA, N.C. – High Point’s Evan Edwards continued his torrid hitting streak on Saturday night, leading the Rockers to a 6-2 win over Gastonia at CaroMont Health Park.

Edwards hit two home runs to increase his Atlantic League-leading season total to 13 and drove in two runs, moving his season total to 41, also tops among ALPB players.

The win allows the Rockers to continue to maintain the top record in the ALPB at 19-7 and puts High Point four games in front of second place Lexington (15-11).

For the seventh straight game, the Rockers scored multiple runs in the first inning, this time victimizing Gastonia starter Kevin Smith (L, 0-2). Smith walked the first two batters he faced, D.J. Burt and Luis Gonzalez, and then hit Nick Longhi with a pitch. With the bases loaded, Drew Mendoza drew a walk to force in Burt before Jack Conley beat out an infield single to plate Gonzalez.

High Point starter Erich Ulemen (W, 2-1) threw 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while fanning four.

The Rockers scored a single run in the third on Edwards’ first homer of the night, added a run in the fourth on Burt’s RBI double and tallied their fifth run in the fifth on Longhi’s solo blast. Edwards capped the night with a solo homer in the ninth.

Gastonia’s two runs came in the seventh off High Point reliever Jonah Scolaro who yielded a two-run homer to Jack Reinheimer.

Edwards is now riding a 12-game hitting streak in which he has gone 19-for-45 (.422) with five home runs and 21 RBI.

At 19-7, the Rockers have tied the franchise mark for the best start to a season, matching the 2023 club which started the year 21-7.

Game three of the series is set for Sunday afternoon at CaroMont Health Park with first pitch at 4 p.m.

Lexington Legends 5, Charleston Dirty Birds 4

The Lexington Legends bounced back in thrilling fashion on Saturday night, edging out the Charleston Dirty Birds 5-4 in ten innings. After a frustrating opener, the Legends showed grit and timely execution to grab a win that evened the series and energized the home crowd of over 2100 fans.
Brady Whalen got things started with an RBI single in the first, and Lexington chipped away throughout the game despite being outhit, including a solo homer from Andy Atwood in the third. Charleston briefly jumped ahead in the seventh, but Lexington answered right back with two runs in the eighth—sparked by solid at-bats from Whalen and Curtis Terry. Whalen had another strong night, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double.
The bullpen came up huge late. Jonathan Haab threw three scoreless innings in extras and earned the win, stranding Charleston runners and giving the offense room to work. Lexington finally broke through in the bottom of the tenth, taking advantage of a pair of walks and a key miscue to walk it off with a balk from Charleston’s Samuel Reyes.
Offensively, the Legends didn’t light up the stat sheet, but they made their hits count. Just six knocks on the night, but they came in big spots—none bigger than Atwood’s early blast and Terry’s clutch RBI double. With the win, the Legends move to 15-11 and will look to take the series in Sunday’s rubber match. They’ll count on some momentum, some patience at the plate, and hopefully just a little less drama to close things out.
The Legends will be hosting Come Home Again Reunion Weekend, presented by Lexington Clinic, June 6-8. The Zooperstars will be in town, along with a commemorative coin giveaway and the return of former Legends players and coaches to Lexington. It’s going to be a Legendary weekend fans won’t want to miss.
