York took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of Ryan Higgins. Chris Williams doubled the lead in the second with a leadoff solo home run to left field off Ducks starter Anthony Escobar.  Long Island tied the game at two in the sixth on back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Troy Viola and Leobaldo Cabrera off Revolution starter Braden Scott.

Lancaster Stormers 6, Lexington Legends 3

Joe Campagna broke a 3-3 tie with a solo homer in the sixth inning, and the Lancaster Stormers, playing as the Lebanon Bologna, went on to defeat the Lexington Legends, 6-3, in the middle game of a three-game series at Penn Medicine Park.

The victory dropped Lancaster’s magic number to two.  Lancaster will advance to the playoffs against the York Revolution with a win and Long Island loss on Sunday afternoon or one win in the three-game series, head-to-head, with the Ducks this week.

Campagna took Patrick Wicklander (11-8) over the boards in left field with one out in the sixth, after the Stormers had surrendered a two-run lead in the top of the inning.

The Stormers were able to add an insurance run in the seventh on Yeison Coca’s double to right center, a sac bunt by Melvin Mercedes and a wild pitch.

Kevin Watson’s two-out solo homer in the eighth stretched the lead to 6-3.

Brady Whalen had staked the Legends to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the first, and the lead held until the bottom of the fifth.  Watson singled to right center with one out, only Lancaster’s third hit of the night.  He stole second and moved to third on Coca’s single to left.  Melvin Mercedes dribbled a grounder toward third.  Brian Fuentes looked toward the plate but had no play on Watson.  He then made a late, wild throw to first, giving the Stormers runners at the corners.  Nick Ward flied out to shallow left, but the Stormers took the lead on a two-run double by Luis Castro.

Lexington snuck back into the tie in the top of the sixth.  Starter Luke McCollough walked E.J. Cumbo, and Dylan Rock singled to right off Billy Sullivan (2-2).  Sullivan retired the next two batters and had Jerry Huntzinger at 1-2 when he uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Cumbo to score.  Huntzinger rolled a single into center to bring Rock home with the tying tally.

Unlike Friday night, the Stormers bullpen held its ground.  Jackson Rees allowed one hit among three strikeouts in the seventh.  Scott Engler yielded two hits in the eighth but got out of the inning on a called third strike against Huntzinger, who was ejected from the game for arguing.  Ryley Gilliam struck out the side in the ninth around hitting Xane Washington with an 0-2 pitch.

Brock Bell (0-0) will start on Sunday against Nic Laio (9-8) in a matchup of right-handers.  Fans may tune into the game on FloBaseball at 1:55.

High Point Rockers 2, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 1

WALDORF, Md. – Three High Point Rockers pitchers combined to three-hit Southern Maryland on Saturday night in leading the Rockers to a 2-1 win at Regency Furniture Stadium. Ben Wereski (W, 4-4) allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out 10 before David Hess and Jameson McGrane (S, 16) each threw shutout innings to seal the win.

The Rockers improved to 72-50 overall while Southern Maryland fell to 65-57 overall and 29-30.

Two games still in progress on Saturday night could determine the South Division second half champion. Gastonia wa leading Charleston 9-4 in the sixth inning and Lexington was trailing Lancaster 5-3 in the seventh. If both of those results hold, Gastonia would win the second half South Division title to set-up a High Point-Gastonia best-of-five series in the Division Championship Series.

After the Rockers were retired in the first, Southern Maryland’s Jackson Loftin hit the first pitch thrown by Wereski for a home run and a 1-0 Blue Crab lead.

But Wereski and Southern Maryland starter Kyle Virbitsky (L, 1-1) locked into a classic pitcher’s duel.

After the Loftin homer, Wereski retired the next 18 hitters he faced, not allowing a hit until Cooper Weiss singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Alejandro De Aza sacrificed Weiss to second before a wild pitch moved him to third. Wereski hit Ethan Wilson with a pitch but was able to set down the final two batters of the inning to keep the game at 1-0.

Nolan Watson lined a double off the wall to lead-off the top of the eighth off Virbitsky. Bryson Parks laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the third base line that he beat without a throw to put runners at the corners. Drew Mendoza then doubled to left to score Watson to tie the game and sent Parks to third.

Virbitsky was replaced by Endrys Briceno out of the bullpen and Luke Napleton greeted him with a sac fly to right to give High Point a 2-1 lead.

David Hess came on for the Rockers in the eighth and tossed a 1-2-3 inning that was aided by a pair of standout catches by Parks in center field.

With Jameson McGrane on in the ninth to preserve the win, he retired Loftin then struck out Giovanni Digiacomo for the first two outs. De Aza triple to right before McGrane put the finishing touches on the win by striking out Pearce Howard.

The series finale is slated for Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium. High Point righty Jake Gilbert (1-2, 4.50) will face a Blue Crab starter that is yet to be named. Rocker fans can follow all the action on FLOBASEBALL.TV and on the MixLR app.

The Rockers will return home for the final three games of the regular season starting Tuesday, September 16. High Point will host the Charleston Dirty Birds at 6:35 p.m. at Truist Point.
