Long Island Ducks 17, Charleston Dirty Birds 16 (12 innings)
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 20, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Charleston Dirty Birds 17-16 in 12 innings on Sunday evening in the rubber game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Second inning two-run home runs by Alsander Womack to center field and James Nelson to left field gave Charleston an early 4-0 lead. Zach Daniels’ RBI double and Womack’s two-run homer in the third made it 7-0.
Long Island got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when River Town tripled and scored on a passed ball. However, the Dirty Birds got the run back on Keon Barnum’s solo homer to center in the fourth. Justin O’Conner’s sac fly to center in the bottom of the fourth trimmed the Ducks deficit to 8-2, but solo homers by Nelson in the sixth and Joseph Rosa in the seventh widened the gap to eight.
The Ducks offense then erupted for seven runs in the seventh to make it a 10-9 ballgame. Bases loaded walks by River Town and Seth Beer, an RBI double by Troy Viola, a three-run home run by Taylor Kohlwey and a balk that plated Cody Thomas highlighted the inning.
Chad Sedio’s two-run homer to left in the eighth pushed Charleston’s lead to 12-9, but Long Island closed back to within one in the bottom of the frame on Viola’s sac fly to center and Thomas’ RBI single up the middle. Daniels’ solo homer in the ninth made it 13-11 Dirty Birds, but the Ducks answered in the bottom of the ninth to tie it on River Town’s RBI double and a wild pitch that plated Town.
Charleston took a 14-13 lead in the 11th on Vinnie Pestano Jr.’s RBI single to right, but Chris Roller’s RBI single to left in the bottom of the 11th tied the game back up. The Dirty Birds took the lead for good in the 12th on Sedio’s two-run homer to right and Barnum’s solo homer to left. Viola’s sac fly and Ivan Castillo’s RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 12th rounded out the scoring.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Juan Hillman lasted three innings for the Ducks, surrendering seven runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. David Lebron tossed six innings for the Dirty Birds, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out seven. Lexington Legends 10, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 6
Lexington, KY- After winning the series with convincing victories in the past two games, the Legends looked to secure the sweep over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs as they played in a midday showdown. Ben Ferrer got the start for Lexington while Southern Maryland put Shawn Semple on the mound.
The Blue Crabs leaped out to an early lead when Ethan Wilson left the yard to drive in the first two runs of the game. Lexington struck right back, however, as Curtis Terry and Brian Fuentes laid down RBI singles to tie the game right back up. This was followed by an RBI single from Ryan McCarthy that plated Fuentes and put Lexington ahead. The lead would not last long as Southern Maryland’s Ryan McCarthy waxed a ball over the left field fence to tie it back up in the second. Garrett Pike was able to find a lead-off single for his first professional hit and stolen base in the bottom of the second. Pike was then driven in by Paul Winland, who bounced one off the center field wall to put the Legneds back in the lead.
The fourth inning was innocuous for both teams as neither could gain an inch, but Garrett Pike was able to find his second lead-off hit of the game. Southern Maryland was able to tie it up once again in the fifth when Brett Barrera laid down an RBI single to drive in one run. However, Lexington would get a break in the bottom of the fifth when an overthrown ball to first allowed Curtis Terry to come home. They continued to trade blows as Southern Maryland struck back immediately in the sixth as Jamari Baylor left the yard on the first pitch he saw to tie the game back up at 5-5 going into the final three frames.
Southern Maryland pulled ahead in the seventh as Jackson Loftin snuck home while the Legends’ infield was preoccupied with turning a play at first. The Legends didn’t bow there however, as Isaias Quiroz sent one flying into the parking lot to make it a 7-6 game. Lexington continued to grow its lead when Garrett Pike snuck home on a fielder’s choice before Cutis Terry bounced off the wall in left for an RBI double that made it a 10-6 ballgame. Carson Lambert came into the game in the eighth and tallied two strikeouts before Jonathan Haab came in to close out the game and secure the win in the ninth.
The Legends get the win 10-6 as they complete their second sweep of the homestand. Lexington’s player of the game is Garrett Pike, who went three for three and had two steals in his first-ever professional game. The win was awarded to Hollis Fanning, who earned his first win of the season, and Jonathan Haab earned his 11th save of the year. The loss was given to Shawn Semple, whose record now stands at 5-5 on the season. The Legends’ winning streak now stands at 6 as they head on the road to take on the Gastonia Ghost Peppers starting July 22nd.
Gastonia Ghost Peppers 7, Staten Island Ferry Hawks 6
GASTONIA, N.C. – The Ghost Peppers were able to stave off a late FerryHawks rally on Sunday, defeating Staten Island 7-6 and securing their first home sweep of the 2025 season.
Gastonia, coming off back-to-back 16-4 wins against the Hawks, managed to score four runs in the sixth to take a commanding 6-2 lead. The Peppers had six straight baserunners in that frame, with three consecutive RBI knocks by Jake Meyer, Alan Alonso and Nate Scantlin.
Scantlin, who was traded to Gastonia from Staten Island on June 22, capped off an 8-RBI weekend against his former team. The center fielder hit a two-run double in the sixth to make it 6-2 Peppers.
Connor Grey had a good outing for the Ghost Peppers, allowing a pair of runs in five innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out three.
John Wilson and Art Warren each dealt a scoreless frame, and after Jonny Barditch’s RBI double, Gastonia led 7-2 after seven.
But Staten Island responded an inning later, in an attempt to salvage the three-game weekend set.
The FerryHawks drew three walks against Bryan Blanton before Aaron Takacs hit a two-run single off Kent Hasler. Kolby Johnson’s RBI single capped off a four-run eighth inning for the Hawks, cutting Gastonia’s advantage to 7-6.
After the Peppers stranded two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth, Ryan Hennen came on to record his first save of the season. The lefty dealt a perfect ninth, retiring Mark Contreras, Tyler Dearden and Pablo Sandoval to shut the door and complete the Gastonia sweep.
Following the Ghost Peppers’ first home sweep of the year, they’re now 5-7 in the second half and remain 3.5 games back of first-place Lexington. The Legends come to CaroMont Health Park for three games this coming week, with the first game starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lancaster Stormers 10, High Point Rockers 2
For the sixth consecutive series, the Lancaster Stormers have taken two out of three.
Scott Kelly drove in three runs while Nick Lucky and Mason Martin homered in a 10-2 Stormers win over the High Point Rockers Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game set against the first half Southern champs.
It was the Stormers’ first double-digit run output in 10 days as the club rapped out 16 hits in the matinee contest.
Nick Lucky opened the offense with a homer that just cleared the wall down the right field line leading off the second inning against Jonah Scolaro (3-4). Lancaster did not score again until Alex Isola cranked a double into the left field corner and scored on a Kelly single punched into left center in the fourth.
Lancaster busted the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate, knocking out seven hits and producing six runs. Ariel Sandoval and Lucky picked up back-to-back singles to start the inning. Scolaro was pulled after Isola flied to the warning track in left for the first out. Daniel Blair was greeted by Kelly’s two-run double slapped down the right field line. Evan Alexander walked, and Slater Schield also lined a two-bagger into the right field corner for a 5-0 lead. Nick Ward chased Blair with a two-run double to left, and Yeison Coca capped the scoring with a single into center.
Martin jolted a 431’ homer in the bottom of the eighth for Lancaster’s final two runs. Braxton Davidson homered to right center, and Aidan Brewer doubled home a run in the ninth to get High Point on the board.
Luke McCollough started for the Stormers and pitched four scoreless innings before departing. Jackson Rees picked the game up in the fifth inning and was relieved by Phil Diehl (1-4) with one out in the sixth. Diehl retired all five batters he faced, three on strikes. Cody Stashak and Gerson Moreno finished the afternoon.
Lancaster will entertain Hagerstown on Tuesday evening. Max Green (3-4) will take the hill against right-hander Julian Minaya (0-6). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or FloBaseball at 6:40 to follow the action.
NOTES: Martin’s homer was his first since July 3…Since Nick Ward and Yeison Coca were reversed in the batting order, Ward has gone 6-for-16 with three walks, and Coca is 8-for-19…Daniel Amaral was placed on the injured list prior to the game on Sunday, and Billy Sullivan was removed from the inactive list…Lancaster and High Point split the season series at three games apiece.
York Revolution 17, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 3
(July 20, 2025 – Hagerstown, Md.): The York Revolution turned a close game into a laugher, scoring 16 unanswered runs from the sixth inning on to annihilate the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars, 17-3 on Sunday evening at Meritus Park. With the weekend sweep, the Revs complete a 12-0 season series in western Maryland while tying a franchise record for most wins against an opponent, now 19-2 overall against the Boxcars.
With the win, the Revs tie High Point for the league’s best overall record at 47-28, improving to a season-best 19 games above the .500 mark. The Revs also remain tied for first place in the second half at 8-4.
York drew first blood in the second as Shayne Fontana walked, and with one out stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. That set up Bubba Alleyne for his first of a career-high-tying four RBI on a grounder to second, giving the Revs a 1-0 lead.
Bryce Cannon connected on a solo homer to right, tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
Revs starter Chris Vallimont retired eight straight before Gary Mattis doubled off the center field fence with two outs in the fifth, and Cary Arbolida drove an opposite field two-run homer to right center, spotting the Boxcars a 3-1 lead.
Hagerstown starter Jack Weisenburger held York to just one run over five innings, but the Revs piledrove the Boxcars bullpen into submission.
Frankie Tostado led off the sixth with a double to left center, his second of the game, and Marty Costes immediately whacked his own double to left center, launching a huge sixth inning as he drove in the first of eight runs in the frame. William Simoneit’s bases loaded walk tied the score at 3-3, and Alleyne lined a go-ahead two-run single to center for a 5-3 lead, chasing reliever Zane Robbins (1-1) who was charged with six runs without recording an out. The rally was far from finished as Jeremy Arocho smacked an RBI single past third against lefty Branden Noriega. Jalen Miller added a sac fly to deep center, and Tostado blasted a two-run homer to left center, capping the Revs’ sixth eight-run inning of the season and third in the past four games as the lead erupted to 9-3.
The Revs kept the throttle down, scoring five more times in the seventh. Alleyne drilled an RBI double to left as Noriega remained in to face the first four hitters of the inning without recording an out, as he was ultimately also charged with six runs. Arocho added a run-scoring groundout and Miller smoked a two-run single up the middle. Brandon Lewis got into the act with an RBI single through the right side as the lead ballooned to 14-3.
The pummeling had one final chapter with three runs in the eighth, as Arocho picked up his third RBI on a fielder’s choice and two more crossed on an error.
Vallimont (4-1) earned the win, allowing three runs in five innings while the bullpen was airtight, combining to retire 12 of the final 13 batters faced. Jordan Morales, Hunter Dula, Tyler Palm, and Alex Bustamante all handled scoreless innings, bringing the blowout to the finish line.
The Revs’ 17 runs tied a season-high along with a 17-5 home win vs Hagerstown on May 18. Their 17 hits fall two shy of a season-high set earlier in the week. Arocho, Tostado, and Ryan Higgins all had three hits. Arocho and Miller each had three RBI apiece while Alleyne’s four RBI tied a career-high set twice previously in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. The offense also worked nine walks compared to just five strikeouts.
Notes: Revs hitting coach Derek Wolfe served as acting manager with Rick Forney away as he is being inducted into the American Association Hall of Fame; the win counts as Forney’s 198th victory as Revs manager, two wins shy of becoming the second fastest in Atlantic League history to 200 victories. Tostado tied a Revs individual season-best with three extra-base hits; his two doubles give him 39 on the season, just two shy of a Revs single-season record and 11 away from the league’s all-time single-season mark. The Revs are now 38-8 all-time against Hagerstown including 21-3 at Meritus Park, having swept seven of eight series and five in-a-row; they’ve won the past 15 consecutive meetings in Hagerstown dating to last season.
Up Next: The road trip continues Tuesday night at Staten Island as RHP Michael Horrell (3-4, 4.89) faces the FerryHawks at 6:30 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and FloBaseball.TV beginning at 6:10 p.m.
