Lexington Legends 6, Gastonia Ghost Peppers 5

The Lexington Legends jumped out early and held on late to edge the Gastonia Ghost Peppers 6–5 in a wild one Thursday night. The bats were hot early, and the bullpen did just enough in the end to secure the win.

Curtis Terry stayed locked in at the plate, launching his eighth homer of the year and knocking in two runs. Andy Atwood doubled in a run, and Brian Fuentes added another RBI as the Legends put up five runs through five innings. They took full advantage of some shaky Gastonia defense and a wild pitch to build their lead.

Colton Eastman bounced back with six strong innings, giving up just two earned runs and keeping Gastonia mostly quiet. Things got dicey in the ninth—Lexington’s bullpen gave up two runs and loaded the bases—but Jimmy Loper slammed the door with a clutch strikeout to pick up the save.

Gastonia made it interesting late, getting a two-run shot from Brian O’Grady and piling on the pressure in the final frame with a mix of singles and walks. But they just couldn’t come up with the big hit when it counted most.

Lancaster Stormers 17, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 3

After being outscored 25-4 over the first two contests of a three-game set against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars, the Stormers had an offensive party of their own Thursday night. Lancaster went 16 and a third innings without a run from the sixth frame on Tuesday up until the bottom of the fourth in the Thursday series finale.

With last night’s game ending with a final score of 17-2, it’s safe to say the Stormers made up for lost time.

Brandon Wagner hit the first the four Lancaster homers on the night to tie the game in the fifth, but the Stormers began their rampage in the sixth.

Ariel Sandoval cranked a long double to left off Michael Saturria (0-2) and took third on a passed ball.  Dave Matthews picked up his first Lancaster hit on a shallow fly ball to center which ticked off the glove of a charging Roidel Martinez.  One out later, Yeison Coca greeted lefty Quinton Martinez with a drive onto the right field deck for a 5-2 edge.

Every long out Lancaster endured in the first two games of the series was undone by a quirky hit in the seventh, one of the biggest innings in franchise history.  Martinez struck out Nick Lucky and hit Mason Martin with a pitch before departing.  Alex Isola hit a dribbler down the third base line that jumped nearly sideways on third baseman Alan Alonso, who then made a wild off balance throw.  Joseph Carpenter made it 6-2 with a single lined to right center.

Sandoval singled home another, and Matthews walked to load the bases.  Wagner picked up another run with a single, and Coca made it 8-2 with a sac fly.  Lucky blooped a hit to left for an 11-2 lead.  Martin chimed in with an RBI hit to right, and Isola beat out another squibber up the third base line.

Carpenter and Sandoval capped the surge with consecutive homers.

Hagerstown had jumped out to a 2-0 lead off Noah Bremer (2-1) when the top of its order strung together three hits with two outs in the third. Left fielder Jesus Lujano singled through the right side.  Second baseman Gary Mattis drove him in with a double snuck inside the third base bag. Welington Dotel followed with a single up the middle to score Mattis.

It would be all that the Boxcars would manage off the Lancaster starter in a six-inning stint.

Lancaster begins another three-game home set Friday night against Staten Island. Right-hander Noah Skirrow (4-1) takes the hill for the home team, while lefty Shane Barringer (0-1) is set to start for the FerryHawks. Catch the contest on FloBaseball at 6:40.

NOTES:  The 12-run inning and 17-run game were season highs for Lancaster…Carpenter had Lancaster’s first five-RBI game of the season…The four homers tied a season high for the club, previously set against Hagerstown on May 20…Bremer has walked one and struck out 17 in his last three starts, covering 15 innings.

Staten Island FerryHawks 12, York Revolution 5

(June 5, 2025 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution saw their three series winning streak come to an end as the Staten Island FerryHawks took the rubber match, 12-5 on Thursday evening at WellSpan Park. The Revs fall to 23-13 on the season and still lead the North Division by four games for first place.

York starter Tyler Palm nearly escaped first inning trouble unscathed but Matt Scheffler beat out an attempted double play turn for an RBI fielder’s choice to provide the game’s first run as Staten Island scored in the first inning in all three games of the series.

Marty Costes launched a towering solo homer to left in the bottom of the first as the Revs answered with a 1-1 tie. It was Costes’ third in the past five games as he has now driven in a run in seven straight.

Staten Island went back ahead with two in the second. After striking out the first batter of the inning, Palm appeared to have another hitter frozen for a strike out but did not get the call, eventually leading to a walk. Three more walks would follow as Shayne Fontana’s free pass forced in a run, and a two-out single to left by Scheffler brought home one more.

Mark Contreras launched a solo homer to right in the top of the third to make it a 4-1 game, and a big inning in the fourth gave the FerryHawks complete control.

Fontana drove a two-run homer to left center and Contreras filled the right center gap with a two-run double as the four-run fourth inning ballooned Staten Island’s lead to 8-1.

Jalen Miller got one back for York in the bottom of the fifth, nailing a solo homer down the left field line, tying the team lead with his seventh of the year to make it an 8-2 game.

Lukas Galdoni had worked 1.2 scoreless innings out of the Revs bullpen, but Staten Island got to the righty for two runs in the sixth, scoring on a wild pitch and a Nate Scantlin ground out to go up 10-2.

Scheffler connected on his third home run in as many games in the series with a two-run shot to left center in the seventh to close out Staten Island’s scoring.

Third baseman Brandon Lewis and first baseman Frankie Tostado tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth for their first career pitching appearances, saving the Revs bullpen a pair of innings. Joining William Simoneit from Tuesday night, Revs position players have logged three consecutive scoreless outings.

Lewis tagged a two-run homer over the Arch Nemesis in left in the bottom of the eighth for his third of the year, becoming the second “pitcher” in Revs history to go yard, five days after Simoneit became the first. Tostado scored after leading off the inning with a triple down the right field line.

York scored the game’s final run in the ninth on a double play grounder, plating Justin Acal who had led off with a walk.

Palm (3-1) suffered his first loss, charged with eight runs in 3.1 innings. He had allowed just four combined runs over his previous five starts, having carried a 1.50 ERA over that stretch. His four consecutive walks were also highly uncharacteristic, as he had walked just two batters and struck out 21 in 19.2 innings over his previous four starts.

The Revs travel to Lexington to open a weeklong road trip with the first of a three-game weekend series against the Legends on Friday night. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and FloBaseball.TV beginning at 6:55 p.m.
