Staten Island FerryHawks 12, Long Island Ducks 10 (10 innings)

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 29, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Staten Island FerryHawks 12-10 in 10 innings on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Seth Beer gave the Ducks the lead in the first inning with a mammoth three-run home run to right field off FerryHawks starter Christian Capuano. Staten Island tied the game at three in the second on Matt Scheffler’s two-run homer to left and a wild pitch by Ducks starter Nick Tropeano that scored Aaron Takacs. A two-run single to left by Takacs in the fourth gave the FerryHawks a 5-3 lead.

It stayed that way until the sixth when Beer left the yard again, tying the game at five with an opposite-field two-run homer. However, a three-run double down the right field line by Pablo Sandoval in the seventh put Staten Island back in front 8-5. Long Island closed back within two in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Kole Kaler and River Town. Town then tied the game at eight in the ninth with a two-out RBI triple to right-center.

Staten Island took the lead back for good in the 10th with four runs. Scheffler’s RBI single, Nate Scantlin’s RBI fielder’s choice and Eddy Diaz’s sac fly highlighted the inning. Taylor Kohlwey brought the Ducks to within 12-10 in the bottom of the 10th with a two-run double to left-center, but Long Island was unable to pull even.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Tropeano pitched four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Capuano tossed six innings, giving up five runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Robbie Baker (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth inning. Peyton Williams (0-1) took the loss, conceding four runs (three earned) on two hits in the 10th inning.

Beer led the Ducks offense with two homers, five RBIs and three runs. Town added three hits, two RBIs and a run.

Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). York Revolution 9, Lancaster Barnstormers 4

Tomo Otosaka had himself a night.

The veteran Japanese Major League went 4-for-4 with three runs, three stolen bases and two RBI to pace the York Revolution to a 9-4 victory in front of 6,602 for the defending champions home opener.

After Lancaster failed to produce off a bases loaded chance in the top of the first inning, Otosaka battled back against Keylan Killgore (0-1), hitting a slow grounder to short and reaching on Nick Lucky’s rushed, high throw.  Jalen Miller followed with a single, then, with one out, the pair executed a double steal with Alex Isola’s high throw sailing down the left field line, allowing the first run to score.  In addition, third baseman Trace Loehr landed awkwardly after leaping for the throw and left the game with an injury.  A ground out scored Miller for a 2-0 lead.  Miller singled home Otosaka in the second for a 3-0 edge.

The Stormers inched back within a run before Otosaka and Miller teamed up again.  Otosaka opened the fifth with a single to left and scored on Miller’s double to the left center field alley for a 4-2 lead.  Alerick Soularie drilled a single off the left field wall against reliever A.J. Alexy.

Mason Martin singled home a run with two outs in the top of the sixth, again, bringing Lancaster closer.

York finally packed the game away in the bottom of the seventh.  Mason Ronan walked back-to-back hitters with one out.  Jairus Richards smashed a grounder to first, and Martin was able to get a force play at second.  Lancaster, however left first base unprotected, unable to turn the double play.  York pounced on the extra chance as Michael Berglund singled home a pair of runs and Otosaka capped the Revs offense with a two-run double to the base of the gate in center.

Lancaster amassed a season-high 11 hits with the trio of Lucky, Isola and Martin amassing seven of them.  The Stormers also left a season-high 13 runners on base and fanned 17 times with every batter going down at least once.

The series resumes on Wednesday with Tim Brennan and Tyler Palm as opposing right-handers.  Fans may tune into FloBaseball at 6:25.

NOTES:  Martin and Lucky have hit safely in all four games…Martin has a four-game RBI streak…Slater Schield, who replaced Loehr, reached base for the fourth straight game…The clubs used six pitchers each…There was a 47-minute rain delay after the fifth inning.

Hagerstown 5, Lexington 4

The Lexington Legends suffered their first loss of the young season on Monday night, falling 5–4 to the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars at home in a game delayed nearly two hours by weather.

Hagerstown jumped out to a 4–0 lead in the third inning thanks to a two-run homer from shortstop Errol Robinson and a two-RBI single by Chad Sedio. Lexington chipped away with single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings, but ultimately couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Drew Ellis stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, and two walks.

Despite giving up only six hits, Lexington pitchers allowed five runs (four earned), with starter Tanner Tully (0–1) tagged for the loss. Lexington relievers Kaleb Sophy and Jonathan Haab held Hagerstown in check late, but a hit-by-pitch and a passed ball contributed to the eventual game-winning run in the eighth.

The Legends had several chances but stranded seven runners and struck out 10 times. Hagerstown’s bullpen preserved the lead, with reliever Franky Quintana earning the win and Rafael Kelly collecting his second save.

Now 3–1, Lexington will look to bounce back in their next matchup as the series continues on Wednesday, April 30th. Wednesday will be Education Day, as the Legends welcome schools from all around the Bluegrass for an afternoon of baseball, learning, and fun, with first pitch scheduled for 10:30 AM.
