Lexington 7, High Point 6
In a battle for the top of the South Division Tuesday night, the Lexington Legends edged out the High Point Rockers 7-6 in a high-flying contest at Legends Field, seizing sole possession of first place in the Atlantic League South Division. The win pushes the Legends to 12-4, breaking the tie with High Point, now 11-5.
Starter Nic Laio earned his fourth win of the season (4-0) with a tough performance, throwing six innings and allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six. The bullpen held firm despite a late push from the Rockers, with Jonathan Haab recording the final six outs for his second save of the year.
Lexington built their offense on power and patience. Curtis Terry crushed a homer in the first inning to set the tone, his second of the season. Ryan McCarthy added a two-run shot in the fifth. Brian Fuentes chipped in with two hits, including a two-run double that extended the lead in the sixth.
The Legends led 7-1 entering the seventh, but High Point stormed back with a five-run frame, capped by Nolan Watson’s grand slam. Reliever Jimmy Loper struggled to contain the rally, but Haab stopped the bleeding and held on through the final two innings.
Lexington matched High Point with 10 hits, and the defense played clean baseball with no errors on the night. The win marks the sixth in a row for the Legends.
With the division lead in hand, the Legends will look to carry momentum into the next game of the series against a Rockers squad hungry for revenge. They’ll go at it again tomorrow, Wednesday May 14th with first pitch scheduled for 10:30 AM for Education Day. The series will conclude on Thursday, May 15th with a 6:45 PM first pitch for Thirsty Thursday. Thursday will also feature Nurses Appreciation Night and Transylvania University Night. Student who participated in the Hit the Books reading program, presented by iHOP, will also be able to redeem their bookmarks Thursday night for two complimentary tickets.
Long Island 7, Gastonia 3
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 13, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Gastonia Ghost Peppers 7-3 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Gastonia took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI double down the left field line from Richie Martin off Ducks starter David Griffin. Long Island responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning off Ghost Peppers starter Nick Wells, highlighted by Roldani Baldwin’s RBI infield single and Ronaldo Flores’ grand slam to left field.
The Ghost Peppers closed to within 5-3 in the eighth on two-out RBI singles to center by Eric De La Rosa and Ethan Skender. However, Peyton Williams struck out Jack Reinheimer to strand the tying runs on base. The Ducks then got the runs right back in the bottom of the frame on Taylor Kohlwey’s two-run double into the left field corner.
Griffin (2-0) earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters, a single game career-high. Wells (0-3) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits and five walks in two and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts.
Flores led the Ducks offense with two hits, four RBIs, a run and a walk. Baldwin added two hits, an RBI and a run, while Kohlwey chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
The Ducks and Ghost Peppers continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s an Urban Air Lake Grove Wednesday, and Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for $10 off an individual ticket purchase (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays) at Urban Air Adventure Park in Lake Grove to fans as they exit the ballpark. It’s also a Waddle In Wednesday, and fans who spend $100 or more at the Waddle In Shop will receive a voucher good for $10 off a future purchase at the team store during the 2025 season (limit one voucher per person per game). Left-hander Mitchell Senger (0-1, 4.50) takes the mound for the Ducks against Ghost Peppers southpaw Adam Scott (0-1, 12.70).
Lancaster at Hagestown, PPD
The Tuesday evening game between the Lancaster Stormers and Hagerstown Flying Boxcars was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a single admission doubleheader early Wednesday.
Lancaster will send right-handers Noah Skirrow (1-1) and Steven Lacey (0-0) to the mound for the 11:00 DH. Hagerstown will counter with right-handers David Richardson (0-2) and Dominic Picone (0-1).
Fans may follow the action on FloBaseball, beginning at 10:55. Both games will be seven innings.
York at Southern Maryland, PPD
(May 13, 2025 – Waldorf, Md.): The York Revolution will have to wait a day to continue their road swing through Maryland as Tuesday night’s scheduled series opener vs the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium has been postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader with a pair of seven-inning games on Wednesday morning beginning at 10:35 a.m.
The Revs enter the series in sole possession of first place by two games in the North Division with an 11-4 record, tied for the league’s best mark through 15 games while establishing the best 15-game start in franchise history. York has swept each of its first two road series of the season including a three-game sweep in Hagerstown this past weekend, as York has won four consecutive games overall.
LHP Matt Walker (0-0, 9.00) is set to start Wednesday morning’s opener against Crabs righty Shawn Semple (2-0, 2.81). The second game has York RHP Foster Pace (2-1, 5.87) going up against Southern Maryland’s Ian Kahaloa (1-1, 6.00).
