Southern Maryland 3, York 0
Southern Maryland 3, York 2

Waldorf, MD — May 14, 2025 — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs leaned on a dominant outing from starter Seth Semple and timely extra-base hits to secure a 3-0 shutout victory over the York Revolution on Tuesday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium in game one of a double header against York.

Shawn Semple (3-0) continued his early-season brilliance, tossing six shutout innings while scattering four hits, walking two, and striking out five. The right-hander lowered his ERA to a stingy 2.05 and handed the ball to closer Jimmie Sherfy, who locked down his fifth save of the season with a clean seventh inning.

The Blue Crabs’ offense provided just enough support behind Semple’s effort. Southern Maryland struck first in the bottom of the first. John Taylor drilled a solo homer to take it 1-0.

The Crabs added insurance in the fifth and sixth innings. Jackson Loftin singled home a run ij the fifth, and center fielder Giovanni DiGiacomo hit his fourth Home Run of the season to extend the lead to 3-0 after six.

DiGiacomo continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-3 and raising his average to .354.

York starter Matt Walker (0-1) took the loss, allowing all three runs on eight hits over six innings.

Game Two: Blue Crabs Edge Revolution in Tight 3–2 Contest

Waldorf, MD — May 14, 2025 — The Crabs claimed a narrow 3–2 win over the York Revolution to win the first two of the series.

Despite both teams tallying eight hits apiece, it was a pinch-hit double by Justin Baylor in the bottom of the sixth that proved decisive. Baylor drove in Alejandro De Aza, who reached on a walk and scored on the RBI souble into the gap. The RBI double broke a 2–2 tie and gave the Blue Crabs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

York faught back in game two, behind designated hitter Frankie Tostado, who had a strong afternoon at the plate with three hits, including two doubles and an RBI. His run-scoring double in the third tied the game at 1–1. The Revolution briefly pulled ahead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Aaron Soularie, but the Blue Crabs responded promptly.

In the bottom half of that inning, Southern Maryland knotted the score once more on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Brett Barrera, scoring De Aza, who had reached base in all three of his plate appearances with two hits and a walk.

Blue Crabs starter Ian Kahaloa, worked five innings while allowing six hits, two runs, and struck out seven.  The bullpen duo of Santiago Florez and Cody Thompson sealed the deal. Florez picked up his first win after pitching a scoreless sixth inning.

Thompson recorded the final three outs to earn his first save of the season, stranding a pair of Revolution runners in scoring position to preserve the win.

York’s starter, Foster Pace, delivered a solid five-inning effort, yielding two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Reliever Ian Churchill (1–1) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Southern Maryland vaults to 10-7 on the year. They have won 10 of their last 12 games and go for the sweep of York tomorrow night at 6:35pm.

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 14, 2025) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Gastonia Ghost Peppers 4-2 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Cody Thomas’ RBI single through the right side in the first inning off Ghost Peppers starter Adam Scott gave the Ducks an early 1-0 lead. Gastonia tied the game at one in the third on Justin Wylie’s RBI single up the middle off Ducks starter Mitchell Senger. However, Long Island answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead. Chris Roller’s RBI double and RBI singles from JC Encarnacion and Thomas highlighted the inning.

An RBI double to left by Wylie in the seventh made it a 4-2 ballgame. Gastonia then put the tying runs on base in the ninth inning, but Patrick Mazeika popped out to right to end the game.

Senger did not factor into the decision but pitched four innings of one-run ball, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out five. Brad Case (1-0) got the win after striking out the side in a scoreless fifth inning. Barraclough (W, 2-0) allowed a single in the third inning and a double in the fourth but was otherwise nearly unhittable, throwing 87 pitches over his six innings, 55 for strikes.

Jacob Edwards came on in relief in the seventh and set the Legends down in order in each frame. Tommy Doyle (S, 4) pitched around a couple of walks but struck out three in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

Nick Longhi, who was leading the Atlantic League in homers a year ago when he tore an ACL and missed the remainder of the season, hit his first homer since his return, leading off the second inning to give the Rockers a 1-0 lead.

Aidan Brewer’s solo blast leading off the top of the third put High Point ahead 2-0.

Lexington put up its first run in the third when Ryan McCarthy walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Pedro Gonzalez’s single. The Legends tied the game in the fourth on a sac fly by Brian Fuentes.

The Rockers broke the tie and put the game away with three runs in the sixth. Longhi plated a run on a fielder’s choice before Drew Mendoza hit his third homer of the season, a two-run shot, to give High Point a 5-2 lead.

Lancaster 7, Hagerstown 2
Hagerstown 3, Lancaster 2

After a nearly flawless performance in the opener of Wednesday’s early doubleheader, the Lancaster Stormers watched another late inning lead slip away in the second half.

Lancaster rolled to a 7-2 win in the opener and was one out away from a narrow, 2-1 win in the second game before Hagerstown scored on a passed ball and went on to the 3-2 win in extra innings.

Nick Ward had staked the Stormers to a 2-1 lead with a two-out RBI single that scored Slater Schield in the top of the seventh, giving Ryley Gilliam the opportunity to pin down the doubleheader sweep.  Instead, Gilliam allowed consecutive singles to Gary Mattis and Joe Campagna around a bad pickoff throw, putting the tying run at third and the winning run at second.

The right-hander retired Ozzie Abreu on a pop up to second and struck out Errol Robinson for the second out.  After a swinging first strike on Chris Kwitzer, Gilliam’s second offering was mishandled by catcher Andrew Semo for a run-scoring passed ball.  Kwitzer later struck out.

After the Stormers failed to score in the top of the eighth, the Boxcars were able to build a run late in the bottom of the inning.  Mason Martin took a bunt from Miles Williams and nabbed Kwitzer slding into third.  Pinch hitter Welington Dotel hit a weak grounder to the hole on the right side which was flagged by second baseman Slater Schield.  In his efforts to get the out at first, Schield fired wide of the mark, and the runners moved to second and third on the error.  Lancaster opted to walk Joe De Luca intentionally, setting up a double play.  Jackson Rees (1-1) got the desired comebacker, but the ball squirted out of his glove allowing the game winner to score.

Schield and Robinson exchanged RBI singles in the third inning for earlier runs.  Jack Maruskin (1-0) earned the win.

Nick Lucky went 3-for-4 with a pair of steals in the opener, while Joseph Carpenter chimed in with a homer and three RBI as the Stormers grabbed a 7-2 win, snapping an eight-game losing skid.

Alex Isola’s RBI double down the left field line and Carpenter’s sac fly to right combined to give the Stormers a quick 2-0 lead off David Richardson (0-3).  Hagerstown picked up its only two runs of the opener on Kwitzer’s blast to right center off Noah Skirrow (2-1) in the second.  Lancaster went back into the lead when Yeison Coca was ruled safe on a close play at the plate in the top of the third, and the Stormers never looked back.

Skirrow worked six innings, yielding seven hits and two runs without issuing a walk.  He fanned six.  Lucky scored on a wild pickoff throw in the fourth, and the Stormers salted the game away with a three-run fifth inning.

The two clubs wrap up the three-game set on Thursday evening.  Matt Swarmer (0-2) will take the hill for the Stormers against Hagerstown lefty Mike Kickham (0-2).  Fans may watch the action on FloBaseball, starting at 6:25.

NOTES:  Newcomers Brandon Wagner and Danny Amaral each had a two-hit game, Wagner in the first and Amaral in the second…The three-hit game was Lucky’s first of the year…Skirrow posted the third straight “quality start” by the Lancaster rotation…Steven Lacey made a spot start in Game Two and yielded one run in three innings.
