Hagerstown adds three to 2024 roster

OF Eury Perez

Outfielder Eury Perez becomes the first player announced by the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars to be under contract for the 2024 season. Perez, a local fan favorite, makes his return to the city after last playing for the Hagerstown Suns in 2010, before moving up the Washington Nationals farm system. While representing the Suns, Perez played 131 games in the South Atlantic League, registering 42 runs batted in, as well as notching 64 stolen bases. Since then, Perez has made appearances for three Major League ball clubs (Nationals, Yankees, Braves), most recently making 47 appearances for the Atlanta Braves in 2015. Perez also brings 17 games of Atlantic League experience to the table, slashing .400 for the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes in 2022, while recording 6 RBI. Perez was also a member of the 2013 Dominican Republic side that won the World Baseball Classic in San Francisco.

LHP Joe Palumbo

Palumbo, a New York native, began his playing career for an amateur side, the Long Island Black Sox, where at the age of 18, he was scouted by the Texas Rangers. Then in 2013, the Rangers drafted Palumbo, thus beginning his professional career. In 2019, he was elevated to the AAA level, registering 108 strikeouts over 80.5 innings, and earning himself a spot as a Minor League All Star. Palumbo then made several appearances for the Texas Rangers through 2020, and after a brief stint with the Giants organization, he would yet again return to the Rangers in 2023, where he most recently played for the AAA Round Rock Express.

RHP Parker Markel

Markel’s playing career began in 2010, when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He would remain in the farm system through the 2016 season, making appearances at several levels including the AAA Durham Bulls, and posting a 7-3 record in his final year as a member of the organization. Markel made his MLB debut in May of 2018, for the Seattle Mariners, facing off against the Boston Red Sox, and made his most recent MLB appearance out of the bullpen for the Oakland Athletics in 2022. Throughout his playing career, Markel has been a member of a number of other farm systems including the Padres, Angels and White Sox. Markel brings Major League experience, and talent, to a brand new Flying Boxcars roster.
